The Pixel Remasters of the first few Final Fantasy games were a mixed bag for many, with most people assuming that these remasters weren't going to be anything special. While the first few releases were anything but promising, it seems that Square Enix has saved the best for last with the Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster. It's easily the best version of this legendary game, and a great place to jump into this massive and epic adventure.

Of course, as is the case with any Final Fantasy game, there are actually several tips and tricks that players can employ to make their time with the game easier and more manageable. The best of the lot are mentioned below, and players getting into Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster will certainly be served well enough by these tips.

8 Shy Away From Grinding Before Getting The Espers

Valigarmanda in Final Fantasy 6

Final Fantasy 6 takes a while before giving players access to summons, which are known as Espers in this game. These powerful creatures can be equipped to both use powerful abilities and gain new abilities from leveling up.

The latter is especially important, since this means that players should level up as little as possible before getting these Espers. This will ensure that they maximize their stat gains when leveling up once they do get access to these summons. It only takes five hours or so to get the first round of Espers, so players don't need to worry about staying under-leveled for too long.

7 Wait For Shadow When You Get The Chance

Shadow in Final Fantasy 6

After Kefka ruins the Warring Triad and sends the entire world into ruin, players will only have a short time before retreating back to their airship. However, Shadow stays back to try and contain Kefka's threat as much as possible.

This leads to players trying their best to escape the Floating Continent. If players reach the end with more than five seconds to spare, they'll be asked to wait until the timer reaches this limit. Obviously, players should wait so that they can rescue Shadow, and recruit him later in the World of Ruin.

6 Mod Out The Awful Font As Soon As Possible

The font in Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster

The Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster might excel on many fronts, but it's the font of this game that is easily its most egregious offender. The squished English text looks absolutely horrible and clashes with the endearing pixel art more often than not.

Thankfully, players can improve their experience with the game by downloading a mod that improves the font of the game. It's a simple fix detailed out on this page, and players should it use sooner rather than later.

5 Let The Zone Eater Devour The Party

The Zone Eater in Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster

In the World of Ruin, there's an area called Triangle Island with a rather unique enemy called the Zone Eater. It's incapable of killing the main party and features an attack called Inhale, which seemingly takes a player out of the battle for good.

Players should not panic when their party member disappears. Rather, they should let the creature inhale their party members so that they can recruit the powerful mimic Gogo into their party.

4 Say No When Asked To Join The Returners

Banon in Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster

The Returners are a rebel faction that is trying to fight against the Empire's injustices. After engaging with them in their hideout, Banon will ask the player to join them.

As alluring as this offer may seem, players should say No to this proposition a total of three times. Not only does it have no impact on the story, but it also lets players get the powerful Genji Glove relic way before they would get it legitimately.

3 Make Sure To Distribute Spells Properly

Alexander in Final Fantasy 6

Final Fantasy 6 has its fair share of magical spells, and these attacks are obviously going to scale better with pure magic users. With that in mind, most healing or magical spells that have proper damage numbers should be given to both Terra and Celes over anyone else.

Status effects that aid the party should be given to other party members, since they don't scale with the Magic stat (unlike debilitating status effects, which get applied more often based on a character's proficiency in Magic). Of course, essential spells that revive characters should still be spread out throughout the party to pull anyone out of a tough spot with ease.

2 Use The Suplex On The Phantom Train

The boss fight against the Phantom Train is easily one of the most memorable and cinematic boss fights of all time, further improved in the Pixel Remaster with a rainy backdrop. While players can use a Phoenix Down or anything along the same lines to trivialize this fight, battling this boss legitimately is just way more fun.

A great moment that has become iconic in the series is Sabin straight-up suplexing this massive train without a care in the world. Players should try and suplex this train as well to replicate this moment and witness one of the most legendary Final Fantasy moments firsthand.

1 Don't Be Afraid To Use A Guide In The World Of Ruin

Square Final Fantasy VI World Of Ruin Blimp

Journeying through the World of Ruin for the first time is one of the most impactful and iconic moments in this video game. It's at this point that players actually get to see just how badly Kefka has messed up the world with his irresponsible actions.

It's also one of the most convoluted places to explore after players get the airship once again, mainly due to its massive size and non-linear structure. Players shouldn't shy away from using a guide to find all their party members, otherwise, they'll get frustrated from encountering higher-level enemies more often than not.

Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster was released on February 23rd, 2022 and is available for PC and Mobile.
