The cosplay community for many games has had a bit of a rough time over the last year in a half, thanks to conventions and other gatherings being cancelled or shut down. However, some fans continue to show off their impressive cosplay builds they've made for various franchises and titles, including a recent outfit from Final Fantasy 6 that shows off a fan favorite villain.
Among the Final Fantasy series' villains, there are few that have captured longtime fans quite like the sixth entry's Kefka, a recurring enemy who the player fights several times throughout the game. So, when a cosplay brought the character to life, clown makeup and all, fans have been quick to flock to the incredible work to see how imposing this villain might be if he were to step right out of the game.
Photographed by reddit user tragiciian, the cosplay shows the mad jester in his signature outfit, complete with incredibly detailed makeup that perfectly matches the appearance of Kefka in Final Fantasy 6. The colorful clothes have a striking quality to them in the photoshoot, as the character's outfit is almost built to clash with itself in multiple places, distracting from Kefka's true nature with his flashy outlook. However, what might be most impressive about the whole shot is the expression on the cosplayer's face as they perfectly capture the character's attitude while seated playfully in an armchair.
Along with the wide smile, accentuated further by the clown makeup, the cosplayer holds a haunting look of disdain that matches the way Kefka often looks at anyone who crosses his path. There's a twisted nature under the character that has led Kefka to inspiring other Final Fantasy villains, as well excelling as a fan favorite from the series even with nine more games to try and top him. So, for the cosplayer to nail that essence that makes the character is an impressive feat alongside the already stellar outfit.
It's likely that with more Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster titles releasing soon, cosplayers will continue to be drawn to classic characters like Kefka over the next few months. However, with how popular some of these characters are already, it's never too much of a surprise to see someone else's rendition appear at conventions or from photoshoots online. Still, the skill shown in both the outfit and the makeup in this recent piece goes above and beyond to make for a strikingly realistic version of such a cartoonish character.
