Earlier this year, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light for Nintendo DS. We got a sneak preview at E3, but haven’t heard much since then. Today, in an effort to create some hype, Square Enix made several announcements.
To show appreciation for Final Fantasy fans and early adopters, people who purchase the game when it first comes out, will receive a limited edition poster. In addition to the poster, they are offering a couple of pre-order bonuses depending on where you purchase the title.
Fans who pre-order Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light from GameStop will receive another special edition poster which is basically a higher resolution image of the box art (see below). Those that prefer to pre-order the game from Amazon.com will receive a $10 Gift Card redeemable towards future game purchases from Amazon.com.
Amazon has been doing similar pre-order bonuses with almost all new releases and I can say from personal experience that it works. I pre-ordered Metroid: Other M and will probably be using my $20 credit to pre-order another game. Sometimes, these pre-order incentives are the little extra push a consumer needs to make the leap and buy a game upon release. They also help publishers sell more new games and combat the used game problem.
Seeing the box art and posters plays with my excitement for the newest portable entry in the Final Fantasy series. I would love to see a robust 4-player co-op system along with the classic turn-based gameplay fans expect.
Are you excited for a new Final Fantasy game? Do pre-order incentives affect your purchases?
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light is set for release on October 5th for the Nintendo DS.
