Final Fantasy 16 has its release date at last, as Square Enix and Naoki Yoshida unveil its breathtaking trailer at The Game Awards show. It has been a long journey for Final Fantasy 16, as work on the next installment in the Final Fantasy saga started over six years ago, with key members of its team coming over from the critically acclaimed Heavensward expansion for Final Fantasy 14, and Yoshida taking on the daunting task of producing two major Square Enix projects at the same time.

The influence of Naoki Yoshida and his team can be felt through every second of the new trailer, as Final Fantasy 16 promises a return to the franchise's roots of swords and sorcery. At its heart, it is a story of revenge – and though a tale as old as time – it promises a very captivating execution as players take on the role of Clive Rosfield, the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria and the now-confirmed Dominant of Ifrit. Clive's tale is all about avenging his fallen kingdom, roaming the wartorn lands of Valisthea as he wrestles with his own inner demons.

The release date for Final Fantasy 16 is set for June 22, 2023, as its trailer comes at the heels of previous one that debuted a month ago, each bearing the name of the game's two central themes: ambition and revenge. Needless to say, the in-game footage shown promises pure spectacle on a scale that Final Fantasy fans have been hoping for ever since the game was announced in September 2020.

This action-packed trailer for Final Fantasy 16 is more than just flash and flair, as it confirms a lot of theories that Final Fantasy fans were speculating regarding the game's story, all the while allaying their deepest fears that it would lack the traditional Final Fantasy experience of a ragtag group of adventurer's banding together. Clive will have friends and allies from across the many corners of Valisthea, as each of them get swept up in the destiny of the Mothercrystals.

June is shaping up to be a major month for video games across all platforms, as Diablo 4's release date has been confirmed for June 5, 2023. As a Playstation exclusive, Final Fantasy 16 will no doubt command a lot of respect when it launches, but many Final Fantasy fans are also wondering when Square Enix plans to release Final Fantasy 16 on the PC. The developers have confirmed that it will be an exclusive for six months, which would tentatively set the launch window for PC in early 2024.

Final Fantasy 16 will release on June 22 for the PS5.
