Final Fantasy 16 has been rated in Brazil and the rating revealed the themes that players will find in the game. Square's title is being developed by Creative Business Unit III, the same responsible for Final Fantasy 14, directed by Hiroshi Takai and produced by Naoki Yoshida. Final Fantasy 16 is at The Game Awards competing for the most anticipated game, proving the anticipation of fans for the release.

Final Fantasy 16 is set in Valisthea, a place surrounded by mountains of shimmering crystals known as Mothercrystals. For years the mountains blessed the kingdoms with ether and allowed the people to live in comfort and peace. Great powers grew up around each Mothercrystal, but now the peace falters as a destructive plague spreads. Players will control Clive Rosfield, the eldest son of the Archdeacon of Rosaria who has sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua but ends up following a dark path after tragic events occur. With the classic setting of the franchise's games, the rating of Final Fantasy 16 in Brazil further reveals that the game will have mature themes.

The Brazilian Indicative Rating System has classified Final Fantasy 16 as unsuitable for children under the age of 16. A document released along with the rating lists nudity, prostitution, drug use, suicide, torture, and gratuitous violence as elements of the game. The trailers had already received an M rating and Yoshida has previously said that the game will be a more mature entry in the series. Final Fantasy 16's story is much more personal than past games, and added to this new information fans will have a lot to speculate about the game's narrative.

In other Final Fantasy news, Geoff Keighley announced on his Twitter that Naoki Yoshida will be attending The Game Awards for "a very special live presentation." While details about what awaits the public have not been released, Yoshida previously revealed that a new trailer would be released by the end of 2022 along with the release date. It is worth noting that the Final Fantasy 16 release date may be announced at The Game Awards 2022, reinforcing the possibility that the ceremony will be the moment when Square Enix will give the much-anticipated news to gamers.

For players eager to check out the conflicts and drama of Valisthea, Final Fantasy 16 will have a playable demo before release - though it's not yet known when. The high expectation is understandable: despite the controversy about diversity in Final Fantasy 16, the most recent entry in the franchise (Final Fantasy 15) was released in 2016. With six years since players followed Noctis and his friends in their efforts to reclaim their lost kingdom, players are ready to meet a new cast of characters and embark on a new adventure.

Final Fantasy 16 is scheduled to release in 2023.
