With just weeks to go before the release date is unveiled for Final Fantasy 15, a number of sources reveal that the game is apparently scheduled for launch on September 30.
To say that the last ten years has been quite the odyssey for Final Fantasy 15 is probably a bit of an understatement. After a prolonged and troubled development period – which included rebranding and almost restarting the game from scratch – Square Enix is finally pulling back the curtains on Final Fantasy 15‘s release date at a March special event. But if the rumors from a number of sources are to be believed, it appears that fans may not need to wait until March 30 to find out when they can get their hands on the game.
According to a report from Gematsu, Final Fantasy 15 will arrive for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30, a date which the site claims is backed up by three independent sources “who would have knowledge of the matter”. While Gematsu has said that its sources are good, the site did state that the September release date should be taken as a rumor.
“Our sources in this case are reliable. However, given the sensitivity of the matter, and that within a company setting anything can change before it is made public, we’re reporting this as a rumor until the release date is officially announced.”
Until Square Enix officially confirms a date, everyone should take that reported September release date with a grain of salt for now. But given that Final Fantasy 15 was already playable from start to finish just months ago, and game director Hajime Tabata’s recent confirmation of a 2016 release window, that alleged September 30 launch date isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
While all eyes will be on Final Fantasy 15 at Square Enix’s March 30 event, it will be interesting to see what else will be announced alongside the game’s official release date. With Square Enix constantly tinkering Final Fantasy 15‘s battle system based on player feedback on Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ducsae, and the recent reveal of the game’s magic combat system, perhaps the March event will be the first time where gamers will see the final version version of the game.
Gameplay mechanics aside, what will also be intriguing is whether Square Enix will announce a PC version of Final Fantasy 15. After nearly a decade of development, surely there’s been discussions of the possibility of a PC version of the game, especially with big companies like Valve and Microsoft throwing in their support for the rise of PC gaming. But all this talk about release dates, PC ports, and battle systems is just speculation for now, and there’s only two weeks left to go before we all find out what Square Enix has to say about one of 2016’s most anticipated games.
Until that September 30 release date is confirmed by Square Enix, all we know is that Final Fantasy 15 is set for launch sometime in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
