Video game publisher and developer Square Enix currently holds no plans when it comes to creating a port of its latest role-playing game, Final Fantasy 15, for the Nintendo Switch.

At this point in time, it's no secret that Final Fantasy 15 can be considered a success on many fronts, whether it be due to the positive reception from fans and critics, or because of its ability to sell well upon release, with the latest entry in Square Enix's long-running RPG franchise's development costs breaking even during the first 24 hours of its availability thanks to launch day profits. However, while the game is doing remarkably well on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, Square Enix may decide to only have the title available on Sony's console and Microsoft's system, as the developer currently has no plans to release a version for Nintendo Switch.

The news comes from Final Fantasy 15's director Hajime Tabata, who recently declared that while the role-playing game may have the ability to run on the Nintendo Switch, the publisher and developer has yet to test it out on the console. Tabata offered these details up during an interview with DualShockers, as he confirmed that Square Enix currently has no plans to bring the game to the Big N's forthcoming system.

"There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. Incidentally, I think that Switch would be really cool if it could run Android apps on its portable screen…"

For those unaware, Square Enix is one of the many companies that has promised to provide third-party support for the Nintendo Switch by making some of its titles available for the system after it launches next month. So, although Final Fantasy 15 may not be receiving a port for the Nintendo Switch, Square Enix has confirmed other games such as I Am Setsuna and Dragon Quest 11 are going to be available for the console.

While the prospect of Final Fantasy 15 not making its way onto the Switch will surely disappoint those who are looking to purchase Nintendo's next console, it may not be too surprising to many fans out there. After all, about a month ago, a former Ubisoft rendering lead revealed that the Nintendo Switch may not be able to handle some current generation game ports on the market. Should this be the case, then it could be the major reason as to why FF15 could potentially not have a port for the Switch made.

Taking all of this into consideration, there's really no telling if Final Fantasy 15 will ever make an appearance as a playable title on the Nintendo Switch once the system launches. Nevertheless, should Square Enix and the Big N manage to make it happen, we will be able to cross off at least one of the titles on our list of games we think deserve Nintendo Switch ports.

Final Fantasy 15 is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
