One truly determined player of developer Square Enix’s latest release, Final Fantasy 15, beats the role-playing game while at Level 1 without using any items.
It’s no secret at this point that Final Fantasy 15 has been a financial success for Square Enix, especially when one takes into account it being on Amazon’s list of its best-selling games for 2016. With this being the case, there are surely plenty of players out there who have already finished the main portion of the open world RPG, but it’s safe to say that none have done so as skillfully as the fan who has beaten Final Fantasy 15 while being at Level 1 and without using an item throughout the entire playthrough.
This particular feat has been accomplished through the handiwork of the YouTuber known as BOYvsVIDEOGAME (via Kotaku), with the Final Fantasy 15 fan completing the task of clearing the main quest to reach the end credits in just under nine hours and twenty-six seconds. Perhaps even more interestingly, in playing through the game without ever leveling up, BOYvsVIDEOGAME manages to net 266,566 points of experience points that he never once spends.
As seen in the video courtesy of BOYvsVIDEOGAME below, the YouTuber manages to successfully finish quest lines like “Bones Seek an Offering” with a mixture of his deft maneuverability, his warp strikes, his tendency to battle with the Greatsword, and his usage of skills like Gladio’s Tempest for back attacks. All the while, he never once uses an item and doesn’t move up to the next level at all.
Once BOYvsVIDEOGAME finishes Final Fantasy 15 with his self-imposed restrictions in place, the credits end with the game saying, “Fin,” which prompts the YouTuber to respond with “Fin? Fin? Not even that good of a story. You don’t deserve a fin.” This, of course, is a reflection of the larger Final Fantasy community’s commonly shared opinion that the fifteenth installment was unfinished.
BOYvsVIDEOGAME’s tackling of Final Fantasy 15 with these specific challenges isn’t the first instance of him finishing a game with personalized limitations. As a matter of fact, for starters, the YouTuber has beaten Uncharted 4 on the Crushing difficulty using almost no guns. Not to mention, BOYvsVIDEOGAME has taken on a feat similar to the one he did with Final Fantasy 15 by playing through Bloodborne to beat it without leveling up.
Bearing all of this in mind, it’s safe to say that BOYvsVIDEOGAME is far from wrapping up his adventures in completing newly released video games in increasingly challenging ways in the future. With this surely being the case, perhaps the YouTuber could also apply his skills to some of the most difficult games from the past for an experience that could wind up testing his mettle even more.
Final Fantasy 15 is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
