Unlocking a job is the first real step into the vast game that is Final Fantasy 14, so players would be forgiven for wanting to get their quickly. All total, there are now 18 different jobs to choose from, but thankfully players aren't restricted to picking just one. For those wanting to take on the role of Healer, the options are surprisingly much more limited, with only three of the 18 jobs offering this capability. Those players that want to keep their party alive by mitigating damage should look into the path of the Scholar, as this will allow them to heal and provide shields that prevent damage.

In days of yore, unlocking a job in Final Fantasy 14 was a bit more complicated, but now it is pretty simple. Players simply need to progress through the story until they complete the "Sylph Management" main scenario quest and then complete the level 30 class quest that corresponds to their job. This applies to the Scholar as well, with one minor exception.

The first step is to complete the "Sylph Management" story quest. This is found rather early on in the story of A Realm Reborn, so it shouldn't take players long to get there. Once the recommended level for story quests reaches 20, players should be able to complete this quest and then join a Grand Company. At that point they are eligible to learn any new job that they qualify for. Next, players need to reach level 30 in the Arcanist class and be sure to keep up with all of the Arcanist class quests.

FFXIV Scholar Job Healer Seraph Au Ra

While most A Realm Reborn classes lead into one job, the Arcanist is unique in that it offers players two job options, the Summoner and the Scholar. The Summoner is a DPS class, so players wanting to focus on healing should definitely go for the Scholar job first. After reaching level 30, speak to Murie at the Arcanist's Guild to get the first Scholar quest. Completing this will award the player with the Scholar Job Stone and their first Scholar skill, Adloquium. This skill heals the target and Galvanizes them, providing a shield to block incoming damage.

The Scholar and Summoner classes both level up at the same time with the same experience, so it is worth unlocking that job as well at this point. In order to switch between the two, players simply need to select the Arcanist class and then change which Job Stone they have equipped in their inventory.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
