Early access for Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker starts on December 3rd, 2021. Today is the final day of Shadowbringers. Square Enix's flagship MMORPG has experienced immense growth over the course of the year, and Endwalker's release is shaping up to be the game's biggest expansion launch yet. No one knows the strain this will put on Final Fantasy 14's servers as both the developers and the players make numerous guides and warnings about server congestion. In the wake of this exciting pre-launch period, Square Enix has dropped the official patch notes for 6.0 to give players something to read about while the servers prepare Eorzea for the dawn of a expansion.

The developers have posted the preliminary, extensive patch notes on the Lodestone section of the game's official website, but this article will cover most of the major changes and additions that Endwalker will bring.

The highlight of Endwalker is undoubtedly the arrival of male Viera, as well as the addition of Sages (SGE) and Reapers (RPR) to Final Fantasy 14. Players can pick up the new jobs by being at least level 70 on either a Disciple of War or a Disciple of Magic job, as that's the base starting level for these jobs. The quests for Sage begin in Limsa Lominsa, while fledgling Reapers start their journey in the desert city of Ul'dah.

For those who play other jobs and wish to continue to do so, like Shadowbringers before it, Endwalker allows them to undertake a questline tied to their role – separated into tanks, healers, physical DPS, ranged DPS, and magical DPS. The quests can be picked up in Radz-at-Han, the new city-state situated on the island of Thavnair.

In an effort to further reduce inventory bloat, Square Enix has also decided to remove belts from the game. Belts used to have their own visual models back in 1.0, but ever since the release of A Realm Reborn, they've been relegated to being little more than an attribute slot – a leftover of the game's legacy code.

Another welcome removal to the game is reducing the amount of Aether Currents, as well as readjusting their position. To unlock flying in a Final Fantasy 14 zone, a player needs to complete 5 specific side quests within a zone, as well as find and attune to its Aether Currents, represented visually by a jade-colored gust of wind.

The patch notes also cover a myriad of quality of life changes coming to Final Fantasy 14, such as displaying a map when picking a Teleport destination, removing gender restrictions on numerous gear pieces, condensing tomestones into poetics and aphorism, as well as adding new furnishings from the Furnishing Design Contest.

Players interested in Final Fantasy 14's housing can also check out the Empyreum, Ishgard's residential district. While Ishgard housing will not arrive until 6.1, Square Enix has opened a single ward for the sake of providing the people an opportunity to plan their future home in the snowy heights of Ishgard.

Final Fantasy 14 is out now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
