After the reveal of Final Fantasy 14's newest job, some fans have noticed an interesting similarity between this new type of fighter and the playable hunter from Bloodborne. Many of these fans have quickly begun responding to the Final Fantasy 14 Reaper reveal with several memes and other reactions to how closely the new job looks like the Bloodborne hunter, with a lot of attention paid to the onstage costume used to show off the character.

This latest trending topic comes from the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival, which kicked off on Friday, May 14th to both celebrate the fan community and showcase the new content coming to the game. However, the comparison has also had the added effect of bringing Bloodborne to the top of some trending pages thanks to this comparison between the new Reaper job and the Hunters.

The topic started when Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida, known as Yoshi-P among fans, walked on stage dressed as this new Reaper job, complete with the black leather armor and a massive scythe for a weapon. One aspect that a lot of fans were quick to draw attention to was the wide-brimmed hat that the Reaper wears, which has a striking resemblance to the Victorian-inspired pointed hat in Bloodborne that has become an icon for the game. As a result, Final Fantasy fans managed to get Bloodborne trending on social media, especially on Twitter, thanks to both the apparent similarities and mostly in celebration to seeing Yoshida come onstage in full cosplay.

As the topic has begun making the rounds through both Bloodborne fans and Final Fantasy 14 fans, which has a surprising amount of crossover, some are seeing this as Square Enix's own interpretation of Bloodborne 2. Others have started branching the topic out to how Final Fantasy 14 also shares some elements with other games, such as Nier, which actually received a crossover event in the early months of the Shadowbringers expansion. Altogether, fans seem mostly excited about the new job and adding to the ongoing joke that the Reaper looks suspiciously like Bloodborne's Hunter is just a fun way to comment on the new look.

While most fans were simply excited to see Bloodborne trending among gamers again, this has reignited the conversation about either a sequel or PS5 upgrade coming in the future. For now, there is still no news on development of a Bloodborne 2, but this trending topic has brought a lot of fans to look at Final Fantasy 14. So, hopefully trying out this scythe-wielding Reaper, especially as the new Male Vera race coming to Final Fantasy 14, can help scratch the itch players have for roaming around as a Victorian Hunter.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, and PS5.
