Final Fantasy 14 originally released in 2010 but after its negative reception, a new team was assigned to the game and it re-released in 2013 as Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. Since then, the game has gone from strength to strength and has had three additional expansions. The game opens up the realm of Eorzea to fans, a rich world with many different environments for players to explore.
Of course, with such a wide world to navigate, you'll want to get around a little quicker and mounts are the perfect way to do so. There are various mounts for players to collect throughout the game, though some are harder to come by than others. Check out 10 of the hardest mounts to obtain in the game at the moment, though limited-time event mounts and purchasable mounts have not been included.

Thanks to steady updates and some great expansions, the world of Eorzea is larger than ever and new players will have a buffet of things to do, see, and collect. This includes all of the amazing mounts that developers have added to the game. FFXIV's rarest mounts are some of the coolest rideables in the entire series. To help new players get a better grasp on what some of the rarest mounts in FFXIV are, the following list has been updated with additional entries.
15 Resplendent Vessel Of Ronka
It's an unfortunate fact in some MMORPG but sometimes the only way to obtain something extremely valuable is to have deep pockets. There are tons of ways to make gil in FFXIV but players that want to ride around on the Resplendent Vessel Of Ronka will need literal heaps of it. The only way to obtain this extra-shiny version of the Vessel Of Ronka mount is to fork over a serious investment. It costs 25,000,000 to add this mount to a player's collection.
14 Gilded Mikoshi
Those that are looking for an even more gaudy and lavish symbol of their immense wealth can opt for the Gilded Mikoshi. Like the Resplendent Vessel of the Ronka, the only way to obtain this massive golden "throne" is to throw fistfuls of gil at it. Those that thought the Resplendent Vessel of Ronka was a gil sink will soon go wide-eyed when they see the Gilded Mikoshi's massive 50,000,000 gil price tag. These are some serious bragging rights in mount form.
13 Magicked Card
Triple Triad is one of the most entertaining mini-games found in Final Fantasy XIV, but how can players prove they're truly skilled at the game? One of the best ways is to obtain the Magicked Card mount. In order to snag this elusive and rare rideable, dedicated Triple Triad fans will need to collect all of the applicable cards numbered 1 through 312. It's a definite time sink, as some cards are ridiculously difficult to obtain, requiring both heaps of luck and some card-based skill.
12 Aerodynamics System
A mount doesn't have to be particularly detailed, complicated, or massive to be rare and desirable. Sometimes, the most simplistic things are proof that a player has been through the paces and stands as one of the most battle-hardened people in all of Eorzea. A great example of this is the Aerodynamics System. This floating sphere has a neat effect, awesome sound design, and effortlessly floats through the air, but the method of obtaining it is why it's so rare.
To grab the Aerodynamics System, players will need to join any of the Grand Companies and win 100 Fields of Glory matches.
11 Magitech Avenger A-1
Some players are content to jump into the world of Eorzea to drudge through dark dungeons and battle mighty bosses, but there are others that live for the thrill of battling real players. Final Fantasy XIV manages to maintain a healthy PVP scene, with developers dishing out rewards for players that want nothing more than to throw hands with each other.
The Magitch Avenger A-1 is an awesome armored-gorilla-like design that can be obtained only by players that have managed to win 100 Hidden Gorge campaigns, which is no small feat!
10 Serpent Warsteed
The Serpent Warsteed mount is the reward for obtaining the "A Line In The Glade IV" achievement, which requires players to earn a total of 100 victories in Frontline as a member of the Order of the Twin Adder.
Frontline is one of the PVP challenges available to players within the game, consisting of three opposing teams with each team representing one of the Grand Companies. Each team consists of 24 players, resulting in a total of 72 players on the battlefield.
9 Battle Tiger
The Battle Tiger mount is the reward for players earning themselves the "Tank You, Gunbreaker III" achievement. This requires players to complete 300 dungeons as the Gunbreaker class, with the required dungeons having to be level 61 and above, included are extreme trials level 61 or above, level 50/60/70 duty roulette dungeons, as well as duty roulette leveling duties.
Roulettes only count if they give you the daily award bonus, so you can only earn one of each per day. There are similar mounts for the other tank classes also, but as Gunbreaker is one of the latest job roles to be added, it means this is one of the rarest mounts as fewer players have it at this time.
8 Flame Warsteed
Much like the Serpent Warsteed, the Flame Warsteed is a reward for the achievement "A Line In The Sand IV", which requires players to earn a total of 100 victories in Frontline as a member of the Immortal Flames. There is, of course, a Storm Warsteed to represent the Maelstrom too.
Frontline victories are harder to achieve than you may think as winning depends on teamwork just as much as the individual skill of party members. If players are unsure of their current Frontline victories, they can view them on the Lodestone, with their stats showing total victories, win rate, as well as the number of total matches fought.
7 Gloria-class Airship
The Gloria-class Airship mount is an adorable miniature airship that players stand upon. This mount is the reward for earning the "You Are What You Eat IV" achievement, which requires players to win 200 matches at the Feast.
First introduced in patch 3.21, the Feast is a competitive PvP mode where players are thrown into an arena and must aim to steal their opponent's medals. The Feast has various seasons with their own special rewards, including mounts, but these are only available for those particular seasons. The Gloria-class Airship is always obtainable providing players meet the requirements.
6 Construct VII
This unique-looking mount encases the player within a metal suit and is sure to get you noticed. The Construct VII mount is obtained as a reward from earning the "One Steppe At A Time V" achievement, which requires players to guide any of the three Grand Companies to 100 victories at Onsal Hakair.
Part of the Frontline PVP challenge, Onsal Hakair (Danshig Naadam) sees players facing off against one another with three teams of 24 players, with each one representing one of the Grand Companies.
5 Morbol
The Morbol mount is rather hideous but also has a unique way of carrying its player. This particular mount can only be obtained by the Blue Mage class and is a reward for the achievement "True Blue." This achievement requires players to earn both the "Blue Unchained" and "Masked Conqueror" achievements.
This involves completing the Binding Coil of Bahamut - Turn 5, the Second Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4, and the Final Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4 with a party that consists only of Blue Mages, and with Silence Echo turned on, and Undersized Party turned off. Additionally, players must complete Alexander - The Burden of the Father (Savage), Alexander - The Burden of the Son (Savage), and Alexander - The Soul of the Creator (Savage) with a party that consists only of Blue Mages, and with Silence Echo turned on, and Undersized Party turned off.
4 Centurio Tiger
The Centurio Tiger mount is a fierce-looking beast that will take players quite some time to earn. This particular mount is a reward for the achievement "You Got Game", which requires players to earn both the "Bring Your A Game V" and "Bring Your S Game V" achievements.
This means that players have to slay a total of 3,000 rank A elite marks, as well as 2,000 rank S elite marks. That's an awful lot of marks to kill, so you best get hunting to get those numbers pumped.
3 Astrope
The magnificent mount that is Astrope is a glorious looking pegasus that can seat two players. This mount is a reward for players earning themselves the achievement "I Hope Mentor Will Notice Me VI", which requires the player to complete a total of 2,000 duties via Duty Roulette: Mentor.
The Mentor System was introduced in patch 3.2 and the Duty Roulette: Mentor aims for experienced players to join duties that are struggling to find party members. To take part in this roulette as a mentor, players must be level 80 and have an average item level of 455 or above.
2 Triceratops
This rather awesome-looking mount does not come easily, in fact, it's a proper grind fest. The Triceratops mount is the reward for the "Nuts For Nutsy" achievement, which requires the completion of both the "Shadowbring Your A Game III" and "Shadowbring Your S Game III" achievements.
This means that players have to slay a total of 2,000 rank A elite marks in Norvrandt, as well as a total of 1,000 elite marks of rank S or higher in Norvrandt. That's a lot of hunting for players, but joining a hunt linkshell could help you get there a little quicker.
1 Pteranodon
The Pteranodon mount is arguably the hardest mount to obtain in the game at present, largely due to the amount of grinding that goes into earning it. To obtain this mount, players have to earn the "Castle In The Sky" achievement, which requires them to earn a total of 500,000 points toward their skyward score as every Disciple of the Hand and Land.
Players can earn points toward their skyward score by donating and appraising items from gathering and crafting in the Firmament, as part of the Ishgardian Restoration project.
