Well-known for its crossovers, Monster Hunter: World has been regularly adding new gear that is themed around other gaming franchises. However, this time around, it is Monster Hunter that will be bringing its content to another title. During the E3 2018 Square Enix press conference today, it was announced that Monster Hunter: World would be collaborating with Final Fantasy 14.

The upcoming crossover was announced shortly after the Final Fantasy 14 Stormblood expansion trailer shown during the press conference. There were not a lot of details in the trailer, but there was a release date for the new content, which is scheduled for Summer 2018.

According to a Square Enix press release, the crossover will feature the "King of the Skies," Rathalos, which had a big presence in the trailer. It is a safe bet that this monster will function as a boss that players can face in order to earn special items or gear that will be part of the event.

Although there was no new armor shown, but it would be a serious missed opportunity if some of the wonderfully designed Monster Hunter: World armor did not make it into the crossover. A Palico also made an appearance in the trailer, meaning those lovable feline sidekicks will be present in some form, be it as an NPC or a minion for players to collect. One prize that appears to be up for grabs is a new emote that mimics the motions hunters make when drinking a potion in Monster Hunter: World, as was demonstrated by a group of players at the end of the trailer.

For those interested in more information on the crossover, a special Square Enix livestream is scheduled tomorrow, where producer and director Naoki Yoshida will be joined by Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer of Monster Hunter: World, to discuss the details of the collaboration. The live stream will begin June 12 at 11:00 AM PDT.

Stormblood, the second expansion for Final Fantasy 14, launched almost exactly one year ago, and has recently released its 4.3 patch, titled Under the Moonlight. The expansion added loads of new content and two new player classes. The expansion enjoyed positive reviews from the gaming community when it launched, and Stormblood earned a high score in our review of the game.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, and Mac.
