Island Sanctuary has come out in Final Fantasy 14's latest patch. The content involves the Warrior of Light having their own private island where they can farm, build, and explore. A huge part of all that one can do on the island involves gathering materials. These materials range from sand to wood and seeds.
The whole Final Fantasy 14 island can be interacted with to gather such items, as they are required for building, crafting tools, catching animals, and growing crops. Different kinds of resources come from different objects the Warrior of Light can interact with on the island. Some resources are even locked until later, when the player has more tools.
All Resource Gathering Tools
There are six gathering tools players can craft. They are slowly unlocked as the player ranks up in Sanctuary level. As they are crafted, more resources will become available to the player.

Remember that not all resources require tools. From the get-go, the Warrior of Light can use their bare hands to collect the following materials:
- Island Palm Leaf
- Island Vine
- Islewort
- Island Cabbage Seeds
- Island Pumpkin Seeds
- Island Sand
- Island Branch
- Island Sap
- Island Stone
- Island Clam
- Island Laver
- Island Coral
Additionally, don't forget that some of these resources are only found underwater.
Gathering With Granaries
The player will have to gather by themselves for a while. Some create macros to make the process easier. Expect to run around the island a lot. The game does provide a resource list in the island menu that will show the location of each resource on the island map. However, there is eventually an easier way to gather, and that is with granaries.
Granaries are unlocked at Sanctuary Rank 5. One granary takes the following materials to build:
- 10 Island Palm Logs
- 10 Island Clay
- 10 Island Logs
- 10 Island Copper Ore
- 10 Island Vines
Once built, a granary provides ability to send a mammet team on expeditions where they do the gathering for the player, for the cost of 50 Seafarer Cowries. They also have the ability to get rare resources such as Island Alyssum, Raw Island Garnet, Island Spruce Log, Island Hammerhead, and Island Silver Ore. A granary can be also be upgraded twice. Up to two granaries can be built on the island.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
