From the live letter, players got a full view of the island from a mountaintop, showing a large-scale area to explore. Yoshi-P explained that the island will have an optional tutorial section that players can use or skip to know how to develop their island. It will take players around two hours to complete the optional tutorial. There will be some unlockable FF14 mounts in the Island Sanctuary gameplay, and they will be unlockable early on.

While on the island, the sprint function will also be faster than it is normally in Final Fantasy 14. Yoshi-P explained that this was to make the island feel a little more stress-free. The island will also have NPCs, which appear to be mammets that help guide the player in island development. More mammets will also appear as more facilities are built on the island.

Items can be collected on the island, but most will remain on the island, ad they will be used to make tools and materials only used in the Island Sanctuary. The collection of materials and tools will go towards building various facilities on the island that will range from shops to constructs like windmills. While there will be a number of objectives, and the biggest will be to build an Island Hall. Building the Island Hall will unlock farming functions on the island.

As more facilities are built, more mammets will come to the island to be shopkeepers. While the island is single-player content, up to 15 other players can visit an island at once. In the live letter, Yoshi P also shared some equippable outfits for Final Fantasy 14 players specific to the Island Sanctuary, complete with straw hats, backpacks, and boots.

Crops, Animals, And Minions

Once an Island Hall is built, players will get access to a mammet that helps them farm. Farming will include making the fields, planting seeds, and watering the plants. Like many farming simulators, the players will need to consistently water their plants to have them grow. When it rains, though, players do not have to water the crops.

Another part of farming will be raising animals. Players will need to build enclosures, use nets to capture animals, and raise them. Animals caught can be nicknamed, and each individual one will have a status the player can check on in a "Farm Animal Management" menu. Based on the pictures, one of these animals will be sheep. Lastly is a mechanic fans have been very excited for, which is releasing their FF14 minions. Up to 40 minions can be placed at various locations on the island from the beach to near facilities.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
