Like many other MMORPGs on the market, Final Fantasy 14 makes use of Free Companies (guilds) as a way for players to come together and knock out some of the more challenging content in the game or simply create a community to hang out. But, in typical Final Fantasy 14 fashion, Square Enix has taken things a step further and implemented ranks for the Free Companies and a way to increase rank.

Increasing a Free Company's rank requires time, effort, and several members to speed things along. But the rewards for investing in all of these things are more than worth it.

How to Rank Up

A Free Company's rank increases as Company Credits are earned. After reaching a set number of credits, the Free Company will automatically rank up. Of course, having more members will make the grind to level 30 go that much quicker. There are a variety of ways to earn Company Credits:

Free Company Ranked Perks

The actions are purchased from the OIC Quartermaster in each Grand Company office using Company Credits. Note that only two buffs can be active at once.

Free Company Housing

Reaching rank six unlocks the ability for an FC to purchase housing. At the time of this writing, there are four housing districts: Mist, Lavender Beds, The Goblet, and Shirogane. A fifth, Ishgard, is incoming with patch 6.10. Unfortunately, these plots are limited and very much in demand.

While finding a plot is a large enough problem, the other is the expense. A small housing plot costs between three and four million gil, a medium plot is between 15 and 20 million gil, and a large plot is between 40 and 50 million gil. And that's just for the land. If a player is lucky enough to get a plot, they must then purchase a Construction Permit. A Small Cottage is 450,000 gil, a Medium House is one million gil, and a large mansion is three million gil. Expensive and hard to obtain, housing is considered some of the hardest content in the game.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
