Final Fantasy 14: Stormbringers is out of early access and officially launched, which means there is a ton of content to explore in the thriving MMO. Although high level players are probably busy unlocking the Dancer and Gunbreaker Jobs, the expansion is also likely to attract some new players to the world of Eorzea. Considering that the game originally launched in 2013, newbies have a lot of catching up to do.

As players start out in Final Fantasy 14 and learn about changing Jobs, following the Main Scenario Quests, and all of the other basics; they are definitely going to want to pick up a mount as early as possible to speed things up. Towards the beginning of the game, the primary option on that front are the franchise favorite Chocobos.

For players to unlock and acquire their first Chocobo, there are a handful of requirements that they must meet. Keep in mind, you'll be able to rent a Chocobo from certain quest hubs to get around quickly before you can acquire your own Chocobo whistle, but getting your own makes things much easier.

  • Get to Level 20
  • Progress through the MSQs far enough to join a Grand Company (it doesn't matter which one you select)
  • Complete the quest My Little Chocobo
    • Note: To complete this quest, players need to purchase Chocobo Issuance for 200 Company Seals. This shouldn't take more than about 30 minutes. You can obtain the Company Seals through FATEs, Grand Company Hunting Logs, Grand Company Leves and supply and provisions quests. We recommend FATEs or Hunting Log missions as the quickest methods.
  • After receiving the Chocobo Whistle quest reward, use the item.
  • Players should then be able to go to the Mount Menu and summon their Chocobo. You'll probably want to drag this command down to your action bar.

That's all there is to it! Mount Speed increases will be unlocked through future MSQ progress, as well as the ability to level up your Chocobo Companion and eventually acquire and use different mounts (like the Regalia from FF15).
