Heavensturn will be returning to Eorzea in Final Fantasy 14 in 2022. A new animal totem has been chosen and players will have the chance to undertake a quest to earn new items in Square Enix's hit MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14.

This year's Heavensturn event will run from January 5, 2022, until January 19, 2022. The annual event is being delayed by several days due to the postponement of Endwalker's release. So, while players will see Heavensturn decorations appearing on December 31, the actual event itself won't start until the following month with the release of patch 6.05.

Heavensturn is a celebration where it is customary for a figurehead to be chosen for the coming year. In the land of Eorzea, the overseeing deity is decided among the Twelve. However, in the Far East, the figurehead is one of 12 totemic animals. For 2022, a tiger has been chosen and according to Far Eastern delegates, a special ceremony has been planned to ward off evil spirits in the lands. In previous years players were able to celebrate a variety of totemic animals. For example, 2021 saw the year of the oxen, 2020 was the year of the mouse, and 2019 was the year of the boar.

As one of the many holiday events in Final Fantasy 14, Heavensturn acts as a virtual parallel to ringing in the New Year and Lunar New Year celebrations. While the events might not be as in-depth when compared to other MMOs like World of Warcraft, this means that they are readily accessible to all players and guarantee equal chances at getting loot. Typically, the quest giver will offer a short introduction, one or several cutscenes will play, and the player must embark on several small treks to complete the quest chain. Usually, the holiday quests can be completed within 30 minutes or less.

Overall, this year's Heavensturn looks to be a fantastic celebration of the wonderful year Final Fantasy 14 has had in 2021. From a huge surge in new players to the release of the excellent Endwalker expansion, it's never been a better time to be an adventurer in Eorzea.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
