Late last year, Final Fantasy 14 launched its long-awaited Endwalker expansion, the MMO's fifth major DLC and the follow-up to 2019's Shadowbringers. This was the culmination of a decade of storytelling within the MMO, with plenty of new content for fans to enjoy. After several delays, it launched to critical and commercial success, and the game is showing no signs of slowing down. It was so popular, in fact, that at one point before Endwalker's release, digital copies of Final Fantasy 14 were sold out for a little while. While additional keys were generated and more players joined in, the game briefly needed to stop being sold.

With so many fans and new players joining in to play Final Fantasy 14's latest expansion, it caused several issues for players during its launch. This includes all of its servers being congested and players experiencing long queue times. This heavy traffic caused many registered players to be affected, especially users who were participating in Final Fantasy 14's free trial. Fortunately, that trial is set to make a return in the near future.

While the main reason for Final Fantasy 14 halting its sales was to assist with the game's continued server congestion issues, the plug on Final Fantasy 14's free trial stopped interested players from trying out the game's content and seeing if it was something they would enjoy. The free trial includes no restrictions on playtime all the way till level 60 and allows gamers to access the A Realm Reborn and Heavensward storylines. Fortunately, after months of unavailability, the free trial will soon be available once again.

Players will be able to register for Final Fantasy 14's free trial on February 22. This announcement was made during the Final Fantasy 14 livestream hosted by Naoki Yoshida, which also covered some other improvements and updates, many of which were focused on Patch 7.0. The time that these registrations will open varies depending on region.

With a fanbase as fiercely loyal as Final Fantasy 14's, along with such a supportive team of developers that has helped the game thrive throughout the years, there might be some fans who will now be able to join in through its free trial. The game's Endwalker expansion even held one of the highest user scores for games released during 2021, and the MMO continues to be maintained thanks to the staff working on the game. Hopefully once registrations open again, Final Fantasy 14 can handle all the new players coming in as well as the ones who are currently playing.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
