It's been almost a year since Final Fantasy XIV released its last expansion, Shadowbringers, and while Square Enix does a great job of continually adding new and refreshing content to the game, players are already looking forward to the next thing they want: new classes. Though the majority of new job classes are added because of a new expansion, there have been past classes added as part of patches, such as Rogue/Ninja and the limited job role Blue Mage.

There's plenty of classes that the Final Fantasy franchise has used over the years, many of which have yet to feature in Final Fantasy XIV. With that in mind, let's take a look at some of the classes that could be added to the MMORPG in the future.

10 Psychic

Psychic has only ever appeared in one title, Final Fantasy X-2, where it was one of the optional dress spheres that players could collect. Despite not being a recurring class like other jobs in the series, Psychic does offer a unique role that could be expanded upon if it were included in Final Fantasy XIV.

The characters utilize their psychic powers to be able to defy the law of physics while engaging in combat. This means that Yuna and company can float and fly around the battlefield while uniquely dealing damage to enemies.

9 Mime

The Mime job in Final Fantasy

A job class that always seems to be forgotten about when it comes to the Final Fantasy franchise is Mime. It has no abilities of its own other than mimic, which allows the character to copy their comrades' abilities. This class first appeared in Final Fantasy V, but it is probably best known from Final Fantasy VI as the optional playable character Gogo was a Mime.

Gogo's mimic ability allowed him to repeat the last action that party members performed and he was also able to equip three abilities of other party members in the main menu.

8 Songstress

Probably one of the least likely classes to be added is the Songstress role, though stranger things have happened. This class appeared in Final Fantasy X-2 and though it's commonly associated with Yuna, both Paine and Rikku could also equip Songstress dress spheres too.

The Songstress is a de-buffer, inflicting status ailments on enemies, though it didn't have any real form of dealing damage. Still, it's nice to imagine that in Final Fantasy XIV you could have a party with a Songstress, Bard, and a Dancer as if you had a little band going on.

7 Berserker

The Berserker class first appeared in Final Fantasy V and has appeared in other titles in the franchise, but the only true Bersker was the optional playable character Umaro, from Final Fantasy VI. Berserkers are named after the Berserk status, which generally increases attack power and speed, but normally prevents the player from controlling the party members or, in some cases, lowers defense.

Berserkers tend to have much higher physical stats than many other job classes, and as their name suggests, will often fall into the Berserk status either intentionally or unintentionally, depending on the game.

6 Puppetmaster

Puppetmaster has only ever been truly classified as a job role in Final Fantasy XI, but the idea of a character controlling puppets in battle appeared multiple times in the franchise. The first instance of this happening was in Final Fantasy IV, where the character Luca was able to control multiple living dolls that combine to create the Calcabrina boss.

Puppetmasters control automatons or dolls during battles, with the puppets being able to perform physical and magical attacks. Puppetmaster seems like a likely class to be added to Final Fantasy XIV as it was one of the job roles in Square Enix's previous MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI. Many elements from Final Fantasy XI carried over to Final Fantasy XIV, such as races and gameplay features, as well as the puppets themselves in the form of NPCs, though they are known as mammets.

5 Time Mage

The Time Mage role debuted in Final Fantasy V and has appeared in several titles since, but the character best known for this role is Ashe from Final Fantasy XII, though she is only a dedicated time mage in the spin-off title Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. However, the Time Battlemage role does feature in the Zodiac Age version of the main game.

Time Mages traditionally utilize time magic such as Haste and Slow, though they also commonly use spells such as Gravity and Meteor too.

4 Rune Fencer

The Rune Fencer class is also sometimes called the Mystic Knight or Spell Fencer class; it debuted in Final Fantasy V and has appeared in other titles since. Rune Fencers combine skilled swordsmanship with spellcasting, though it could be argued that Final Fantasy XIV's Red Mage class has already adapted this into its role.

Originally, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII was planned to be a Mystic Knight, additionally, the class is alluded to in Final Fantasy IX, with Steiner essentially being able to fulfill the role as long as Vivi is in the party also.

3 Gambler

The Gambler role sometimes goes by other names but is a class that relies on luck to cast buffs and debuffs, as well as performing attacks that can be very powerful if their luck if good. However, if their luck is bad, they can receive detrimental effects instead.

Gambler first appeared in Final Fantasy VI with Setzer representing the role; however, this was cut from the original North American Super Nintendo version but returned in later versions. Setzer's Gambler outfit is actually available in Final Fantasy XIV already, even though the class itself is currently not available. Another well-known example of this class comes under the name of Corsair in Final Fantasy XI, where players use dice and cards to determine the efficiency of their buffs for other party members, whilst wielding Hexagun weapons.

2 Geomancer

Geomancer, also sometimes known as an Elementalist, first appeared in Final Fantasy III and has appeared in many titles since. The Geomancer's weapon of choice is a bell, which they use to control elemental magicks. One of the Geomancer's signature skills is Terrain, which allows them to perform special attacks based on the terrain of the current battlefield.

Geomancer was one of the last jobs added to Final Fantasy XI as part of the Seekers of Adoulin expansion. Geomancers are not currently a job role within Final Fantasy XIV, but they do feature in some way as part of the Astrologian storyline.

1 Beastmaster

The Beastmaster role first appeared in Final Fantasy V and has appeared in many titles since, though it's sometimes referred to by other names, such as the Trainer class. Beastmasters usually can charm monsters that they are then able to use in battles against their opponents.

Beastmaster was a popular job role in Final Fantasy XI, with players being able to charm monsters in the open world, as well as summon special NPC monsters. Its inclusion in the previous MMORPG leads fans to believe that it is a likely contender to be added to Final Fantasy XIV.
