Final Fantasy 14's new expansion Endwalker has added a ton of new content. Players have more story, loads of new quests, a pair of new Jobs called the Reaper and the Sage, and even a whole new race to choose when building a new character.

Races in FF14

Players can choose from a variety of races, and each expansion has added even more to Final Fantasy 14 over time. Six of these races could be either male or female, but two could only be one of these two. The races players could choose from in the game before Endwalker were:

  • Hyur
  • Elezen
  • Lalafell
  • Miqo'te
  • Roegadyn
  • Au Ra
  • Viera (Female only)
  • Hrothgar (Male only)

However, in Endwalker, players are finally not only allowed to play as male Viera, they are also allowed to dress their new bunny boys up in clothing designed for any Final Fantasy 14 gender.

New Viera in Final Fantasy 14

Thankfully, Endwalker is starting to change the gender-exclusive races. In update 6.0, players will be able to make male Viera (the bunny-like race) for the first time since the race's introduction to the series. Ever since Viera were first seen in 2003 in Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, only female bunny people have been seen in any FF game. The Endwalker update also expanded the types of hairstyles available to the female Viera as well, making players more able to create the exact look for their character that they want. This coupled with the new glamour rules, new options and looks will be available for everyone.

Also to be added later on in Endwalker's cycle will be the ability to play as female Hrothgar. These cat-like people are based on the Ronso from Final Fantasy 10; they come in both warm-colored fur from the Helion clan and the cool-colored furred Lost.

Changing a Character in FF14

Players can either choose to make a brand new character in order to change their gender or look, or they can take advantage of the fantasia system that allows players to update their race, gender, and look. Players get one fantasia free for completing the A Realm Reborn story quest chain, and they can also purchase them in the Final Fantasy 14 store for $10 USD for 1, $28 USD for 3, and $45 USD for 5. Fantasias are a consumable potion item that players can use at any time, which means they can use it for changing to a male Viera or wait around until the female Hrothgar are finally available.

Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
