Final Fantasy 14 introduces the Rising seasonal event next Saturday on August 27th. An annual celebration of A Realm Reborn's launch, the Rising famously represents a love letter to the Final Fantasy 14 community from the developers of the game, thanking them for years of continued support – often in a literal sense as Naoki Yoshida, the game's producer, makes a cameo during the questline to convey his appreciation to the playerbase.

Past versions of the Rising were known to bring many interesting rewards for completing the event quest, often in the form of posters as in-game furniture or minions of iconic Final Fantasy 14 characters such as Ardbert, Gosetsu, Y'shtola or Yugiri. Coming off the end of the Moonfire Faire that gave players a popular new summer outfit now seen on every corner of Limsa Lominsa, this year's Rising awards players with a minion that depicts the game's most beloved antagonist.

Players will be getting their very own miniature Emet Selch for participating in this year's event. Widely considered to be one of the best villains that have graced the genre, Emet Selch has captured the hearts of Final Fantasy 14 fans throughout his many appearances in Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker. To prevent any spoilers for new players of the game, Square Enix has named the minion as "Clockwork Solus" – playing into the former Amaurotine's life as the founding father of the Garlean Empire.

To obtain Emet Selch, players will need to make their way to Ul'dah and speak to the Wandering Minstrel – whose appearance is based on Naoki Yoshida and who often facilitates unlocking the Extreme versions of trials in Final Fantasy 14. There are no specific requirements in undertaking the quest other than being Level 15, and moreover – players who have missed previous Rising events will also be able to purchase select exclusive items and rewards through the vendor.

Given Square Enix's unofficial policy when it comes to depicting characters as minions (barring a few exceptions), one can assume that Emet's journey in the story is finally over. Indeed, Final Fantasy 14 looks towards a new adventure in the Void as Endwalker's "Buried Memory" launches on August 23rd. Building upon the newly introduced Endwalker characters, the next tale in the world of Etheirys and its reflections centers around the expedition to the doomed Thirteenth Shard as the dragon Vrtra searches for his missing sister.

Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
