Final Fantasy 14 may not have the most extensive character creator in the world of MMOs, nor does it have the most intricate of dye systems – but what the game does have is a creative community willing to work around and beyond those limitations, either within the confines of the glamour system or even going as far as to install unofficial cosmetic mods for Final Fantasy 14.

Cosplaying as various pop-culture characters has long been a staple in the world of Etheirys, such as the time a Final Fantasy 14 player dressed up as Colonel Sanders, showing up randomly all over Eorzea alongside his feathered nemesis. Between female Roegadyn players putting on their finest costumes of Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil, or male Lalafell players trying their best to resemble the titular protagonist of Super Mario – cosplay glamours are a fun exercise in creativity.

A recent – and no doubt topical example – is a cosplay of Doctor Strange made by michaeljeff2, a Redditor who shared his outfit with the Final Fantasy 14 community on Reddit. The glamour is displayed on a Hyur (human) character, and the active job is that of the Scholar – no doubt to maximize the immersion of Strange reading spells from the Book of the Vishanti. Sage and Summoner seem to be perfectly valid alternatives for players wanting to take the cosplay into a different direction.

The outfit is comprised out of two key pieces: the Clown Boots from the recent Final Fantasy 14 event of All Saints Wake, as well as the Cape of Happiness – the go-to choice for Hobbit cosplays crafted from Cloth of Happiness, a material that drops from the instanced group version of Endwalker's treasure maps. However, as all these options keep being added to the game, many players struggle to store the items in their glamour dresser without going past capacity.

Even though the newest patch of Endwalker added five more glamour plates, what players could really use is an expansion of glamour dresser slots. Thankfully, this is planned for a future content patch – and the current expectation is that 6.2 will double the amount of slots from 400 to 800. Until then, players will need to rely on retainers to hold their less used items of clothing. An understandably tedious procedure, and an unfortunate necessity that holds back the full potential of Final Fantasy 14's glamour system.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
