Final Fantasy 14’s Endwalker expansion was a massive success for Square Enix. It ended up being one of the highest-rated games of last year, and many players had to wait for hours in a queue to log in. Square Enix even stopped sales of Final Fantasy 14 to ease the queue times and gave around 21 days of game time to all users affected by the issues.

Final Fantasy 14 gets a new expansion every couple of years. In between these expansions, Square Enix releases free updates that add main story quests and other types of new content. Patch 6.1 for Final Fantasy 14 came out on April 12 earlier this year, and while the developer has released smaller updates, many fans are probably waiting for the next big content drop. The latest Square Enix livestream revealed more information on what players can expect from Patch 6.2 and announced a set release window for this update.

Patch 6.2 for Final Fantasy 14, titled Buried Memories, launches in late August, over 4 months after the previous update. The latest Letter from the Producer Live event confirmed that Final Fantasy 14’s Buried Memories update comes with tons of new content, including story missions, side quests, gear, and raids, along with a brand-new feature.

The story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark concluded in Endwalker, and Patch 6.1 marked the beginning of a new saga in Final Fantasy 14. Update 6.2 will probably build upon this and further tease the next major story arc. It also comes with a new dungeon called The Fell Court of Troia as well as a trial. In terms of endgame content, Buried Memories will add new raids in both Normal and Savage difficulty levels.

The Final Fantasy 14 development team has been making changes to older content in recent years and this continues with Update 6.2. It will introduce further main scenario reworks, including changing The Steps of Faith Trial into a solo quest battle. Smaller updates will follow Patch 6.2 and will bring more meaningful additions, such as Variant Dungeons that are set to come in Update 6.25.

Outside battle-related content, Update 6.2 for Final Fantasy 14 adds the highly anticipated Island Sanctuary game mode. It gives players access to a massive island where they can gather materials and take care of animals. Users are also allowed to invite friends and free company members to their island. Considering all the new content, Final Fantasy 14 fans will have plenty to do when Patch 6.2 launches next month.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
