The Dragoon in Final Fantasy 14 is a callback to the iconic class from the Final Fantasy series. And like in the rest of the franchise, the FF14 Dragoon excels in attacking with their spears from up high in the air, utilizing massive jumping power that makes them quite like their namesake.

Unlike in other Final Fantasy games, the FF14 Dragoon needs to be at the right position at the right time to ensure maximized DPS. Of course, boosting the Dragoon’s damage output means giving them the best-quality weapons as often as possible. However, just which weapons in FF14 suit the Dragoon best?

10 Palaka Couse

Palaka Couse
Item Level 536 Physical Damage 106
Auto Attack 98.93 Delay 2.80
Strength 216 Vitality 227
Determination 147 Direct Hit Rate 210

The Palaka Maiming Set has this aesthetic prepared to send the Dragoons to battle, and the Palaka Couse is a polearm that has an appropriate appearance to match. In terms of base stats, the Palaka Couse has middling Physical Damage and Auto Attack ratings and has decent Strength, Vitality, and Direct Hit Rate bonuses. At its core, these stats seem to help Dragoons be more viable as straightforward DPS classes with decent survivability.

Players can obtain the Palaka Couse from the Vanaspati dungeon in Endwalker, where it has an Item Level of 536.

9 Ironwood Spear

Ironwood Spear
Item Level 539 Physical Damage 95
Auto Attack 88.86 Delay 2.80
Strength 197 Vitality 205
Critical Hit 133 Determination 191

Despite the rather mundane appearance of the Ironwood Spear, it packs a lot of punch. And while its base Physical Attack and Auto-Attack seem mundane, the Ironwood Spear does compensate in terms of decent Vitality, Strength, and Determination. It seems like a good training weapon for any Dragoon who wants to start training in dealing more damage, especially considering how there are better spears and polearms with higher base stats.

Players can obtain the Ironwood Spear via the Junkmonger in Elpis and acquire it from the Ironwood Weapon Coffer.

8 Ktiseos Spear

Ktiseos Spear
Item Level 542 Physical Damage 107
Auto Attack 99.86 Delay 2.80
Strength 222 Vitality 229
Critical Hit 213 Determination 149

The Ktiseos Maiming Set has this swirling stylish aesthetic that seems appropriate for the Dragoon’s control over the skies, and the Ktiseos Spear and its sleek appearance seem fitting for its purpose. While it’s not the strongest in terms of base stats, the Spear seems built enough to last the Dragoon a few more dungeons while leveling up. It has decent Physical Damage, on top of strong Vitality, Strength, and Critical Hit bonuses for stats. When built right, the Ktiseos Spear can be a decent-enough weapon for a Dragoon with an emphasis on critical-based builds.

Players can obtain the Ktiseos Spear from the Ktisis Hyperboreia dungeon in Endwalker.

7 Integral Magitek Spear

Integral Magitek Spear
Item Level 545 Physical Damage 97
Auto Attack 90.53 Delay 2.80
Strength 203 Vitality 207
Critical Hit 193 Direct Hit Rate 135

The Chondrite Maiming Set adds a steampunk general flair to an ordinary Dragoon’s appearance, and the Integral Magitek Spear transforms an ordinary polearm into a drill strong enough to tear through opponents. While its Physical Damage and Auto Attack leave much to be desired, it does boast decent-enough bonuses to base stats to become a weapon that fits its stellar aesthetic. It seems fitting for a Dragoon just learning the ropes in terms of critical builds and still wanting to look stylish while dishing out attacks.

Players can grab the Integral Magitek Spear via the Chondrite Weapon Coffer, obtained from the Junkmonger in Labyrinthos and Elpis, as well as the Merchant & Mender and Provisions Node in Ultima Thule.

6 Abel’s Lance

Abels Lance
Item Level 580 Physical Damage 111
Auto Attack 103.60 Delay 2.80
Strength 241 Vitality 241
Critical Hit 232 Determination 162

Often appearing as the most powerful spear in other games in the franchise, Abel’s Lance makes a return in FF14 as one of the best spears for the Dragoon Job. It has a sleek claw-like appearance, befitting the dragon aesthetic of the Tiamat Set. It boasts decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack and is especially more impressive in terms of equal Strength and Vitality bonuses. It has decent Critical Hit and lackluster Determination bonuses, meaning Abel’s Lance will have Dragoons focus on damage-heavy builds with a bit of a trade-off in terms of sustainability.

Players can obtain the Abel’s Lance from Varsarudh from the Agora in Old Sarlayan.

5 Moonward Bident

Moonward Bident
Item Level 560 Physical Damage 113
Auto Attack 105.46 Delay 2.80
Strength 251 Vitality 255
Critical Hit 173 Determination 247

As the name suggests, the Moonward Bident boasts two pointed edges instead of one, making it quite an intimidating polearm to look at. It easily becomes a fitting weapon component of the Moonward Maiming Set, which in itself is sleek in its design, filled with swirls and pearl-like accessories. Its Physical Damage and Auto Attack seem quite decent to say the least, with impressive bonuses for Strength, Vitality, and Determination. Critical Hit bonuses could use improvements, but the Determination focus means perhaps a recommendation of building a more sustainable Dragoon for longer dungeon incursions.

Players can obtain the Moonward Bident from Cihanti with the Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism in Radz-at-Han.

Despite its rather basic appearance, the Classical Spear is quite an interesting weapon to pair with the Dragoon. Its decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack don’t necessarily compare with other weapons of its category, but it does have middling Vitality, Strength, and Direct Hit Rate bonuses to compensate. Given its rather low Critical Hit bonus, it seems the Classical Spear wants to focus on the Dragoon’s potential for straightforward combat instead of crit-based builds.

Thankfully, players can use the Classical Spear as a training weapon for higher-level dungeons considering it can be obtained via crafting, particularly as a 2-Star recipe from the Master Carpenter rank.

3 Radiant’s Partisan

Radiants Partisan
Item Level 590 Physical Damage 117
Auto Attack 109.19 Delay 2.80
Strength 280 Vitality 290
Critical Hit 182 Direct Hit Rate 260

The Radiant’s Maiming Set has this particular stylish aesthetic that fits the Dragoon’s visual motif, particularly with their inspiration from dragons. Thankfully, the Radiant’s Partisan is a fitting weapon to come with the set, thanks in part to its sleek appearance. The Radiant’s Partisan has decent Physical Damage and Auto Attack that makes it among the highest of its weapon class. Not to mention, its high Vitality, Strength, and Direct Hit Rate bonuses mean this weapon may be built specifically to encourage the Dragoon to become more in line with a straightforward DPS role.

Players can acquire the Radiant’s Partisan with the Allagan Tomestone of Astronomy and a Discal Tomestone from CIhanti in Radz-at-Han.

2 Augmented Radiant’s Partisan

Augmented Radiants Partisan
Item Level 600 Physical Damage 119
Auto Attack 111.06 Delay 2.80
Strength 286 Vitality 310
Critical Hit 186 Direct Hit Rate 266

There’s always something about augmented weapons that make them more practical for long-term dungeoneering, and the Augmented Radiant’s Partisan is a great partner for a Dragoon who wants to focus on their dungeon-delving endeavors. Thanks to its renewed bonuses, the Augmented Radiant’s Partisan now has more emphasis on increased Vitality and Strength, as well as a decent Direct Hit Rate. Its lack of emphasis on Critical Hit means the Dragoon that uses this will likely have to focus on combos and rotations for sustained damage overall, with buffs from support Jobs like the Scholar.

Players can obtain the Augmented Radiant’s Partisan by bringing their Radiant’s Partisan to Khaldeen in Radz-at-Han and improving it with a Radiant Roborant.

1 Asphodelos Trident

Asphodelos Trident
Item Level 605 Physical Damage 120
Auto Attack 112.00 Delay 2.80
Strength 304 Vitality 320
Critical Hit 269 Determination 188

The Asphodelos Maiming Set has this simple yet regal quality to it, quite unlike the usual sleek appearance a Dragoon would be used to having. However, this is by no means a reason to underestimate the Asphodelos Trident, as it’s easily one of the best polearms in the game. While its Physical Damage and Auto Attack are close to weapons in its category, its bonuses are simply too good to pass up. Its Vitality and Strength bonuses are enormous, coupled with a decent-enough Critical Hit bonus that emphasizes the lethal potential of the Dragoon when it hits its criticals, especially with aid from the Bard and other Jobs that have attack buffs.

Players can get the Asphodelos Trident with the Asphodelos Mythos IV from Djole in Radz-at-Han or Mylenie in Labyrinthos.
