Final Fantasy 14 homeowners that have not logged into the game recently will not have long to keep their houses. Soon, the automatic demolition timer for player houses and free company houses will start ticking once again, which could lead to players losing their homes in Final Fantasy 14.

The announcement came one day after Final Fantasy 14 revealed new details about Patch 6.3, Gods Revel, Lands Tremble. The focus of yesterday's special site update was on some of the upcoming main story content. When the Patch 6.3 special site went live, Square Enix posted a few screenshots from both cutscenes and the new “Lapis Manalis” dungeon coming to the game. Square Enix also pulled back the curtain on the key art and logo of the update. With just a few weeks to go until Patch 6.3, anticipation is building among Final Fantasy 14 players as they guess what will happen next in the main story.

When Patch 6.3 is released, the automatic demolition timer will resume in Final Fantasy 14. Patch 6.3 is scheduled to release in early January, with a concrete release date likely coming soon. Players that have not entered either their own house or their free company's house will have a limited amount of time to do so before the house is lost. Once the house is lost, any housing items inside can be reclaimed by talking to a resident caretaker NPC in any housing district within 35 days to reclaim them. Players can also claim up to an 80% refund of the cost of the plot, regardless of whether it was earned via the first-come-first-served system or the current housing lottery system. It is currently unknown if any housing plots that become demolished after Patch 6.3 will be sold via the housing lottery or not, so players will have to wait and see what approach the developers will take. The automatic demolition timer can be paused once more at the discretion of Square Enix, for any technical or real-world reason.

The automatic demolition timer was paused in December 2021, around the same time that Endwalker was released. While the expansion was a success, the login queues and error codes that plagued Final Fantasy 14 players for days gave Square Enix no choice but to pause the automatic demolition timers until things were sorted out. The timer was then extended indefinitely in early 2022, in light of the real-world news surrounding Ukraine and the global natural disasters going on at the time.

Since then, both the addition of the Dynamis Datacenter in Patch 6.28 and the announcement of new housing wards coming in Patch 6.3 have given Square Enix enough cause to resume automatic demolitions in Final Fantasy 14. Only time will tell how many houses will be lost in the process, and how fast the new wards will fill up.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
