This Friday Square Enix held the latest Final Fantasy 14 Letter from the Producer Live event. During the broadcast, the lead developers of Final Fantasy 14 broke down the upcoming 5.4 patch, which will arrive on December 8. But Square Enix wasn't content just to focus on short-term content updates. There are bigger plans for the MMO than what's coming in December. A bigger announcement was also teased with the confirmation of a Final Fantasy 14 Announcement Showcase in February 2021.

The Final Fantasy 14 Announcement Showcase will officially air on February 5 at 5:30 PM PST. No official information about what's planned to be announced has been revealed yet. All Square Enix is willing to say is that it will be announcing "cool things."

While Square Enix isn't willing to say what it plans to announce, Final Fantasy 14 fans are already near-to-certain what to expect. Shadowbringers, Final Fantasy 14's third expansion, was released in July 2019. With Square Enix's routine of launching a new expansion every two years, that means a fourth expansion should be ready for 2021. All eyes will be on the February event to see what's coming next for Final Fantasy 14.

Typically, Final Fantasy 14's new expansion would be announced already. Square Enix has typically made the reveal during the year prior to release. Shadowbringers, for example, was announced in November 2018. It's likely that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted development and marketing plans, however. The delayed announcement could also mean that the expansion will be delayed, pushed into late 2021 rather than the normal June or July releases. Final Fantasy 14 fans will be waiting with anticipation.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC and PS4.
