Final Fantasy 14 has intermittent patches every few weeks, each providing brand new content for players, whether it be small changes to current gameplay or newly added features. For the 6.2 patch, players of the game were most excited for the long-awaited Island Sanctuary as well as the next installment of Savage raids and additions to the main story and side stories.

7 Main Story

One of the main reasons why Final Fantasy 14 has flourished is because of the amazing main storyline. Filled to the brim with loveable characters that always seem to strike a chord with players, as well as villains that are surprisingly popular despite their controversial acts throughout the story.

The Endwalker expansion was one of the most successful releases for the game in general, meaning fans were eagerly awaiting updates about what their favorite characters were up to. Much like the 6.1 patch, 6.2 offers players additional quests to carry on with the main story.

6 Island Sanctuary

Second version of Cozy Cabin.

Island Sanctuary was by far one of the most eagerly awaited features that were announced around the time of Endwalker. It was branded as a crossover between Final Fantasy and Stardew Valley, blending the worlds of a farming simulator and fantasy themes together. As of the 6.2 release, players have been enjoying every moment at the Island Sanctuary, where they can look after animals such as Chocobo and Coblyn’s as well as sow and water their own crops.

In short, it’s an embellished version of the already implemented crafting and gathering jobs that have been part of Final Fantasy 14 for years. The Island Sanctuary is a wonderful way to take a break while playing the game, especially for those who take part in hardcore content such as Savage raids and Unreal trials.

5 New Pandæmonium Normal Raids

It's no surprise that players were excited for some new raiding content to take part in. The release of brand-new normal raids is always a great time for fans, bringing them exhilarating new fights and new bosses to defeat, as well as a fantastic soundtrack to go alongside.

The Pandæmonium normal raids were incredibly popular at release, especially as players had to grind the content to earn loot. 6.2 brings an additional 4 fights to the Pandæmonium raid series so far, with more to come in later patches. Aesthetically, these fights look visually stunning, paired with amazing OSTs that truly set the mood for the Warrior of Light.

4 New Pandæmonium Savage Raids

As well as the normal Pandæmonium raid series, there are also the more difficult Savage versions. Fights listed under the Savage difficulty are often some of the hardest fights in the game, alongside Unreal trials and the terrifyingly challenging Ultimate fights. The first set of the Pandæmonium Savage fights caused many hours of frustration for players, followed by adrenaline-pumping moments that lead to the joyous celebration after a clear, whether they're playing as a DPS, tank, or healer.

Once the hardcore players had cleared all four of the first Pandæmonium Savage fights, they then had to complete reclears to obtain the gear they needed for higher stats over numerous weeks. 6.2 saw the release of the next set of four Pandæmonium Savage fights, which is an exciting time for those who love to participate in the race to world first. This is a challenge set by the players to be the first group to clear the fights across the Data Centres and servers.

3 New Containment Bay S1T7 Unreal Trial

In Final Fantasy 14, unreal trials are similar to extreme trials, but with a much higher difficulty. They can fill the gap between the extreme and savage content for some, making it perfect for hardcore players. Unreal trials consist of difficult mechanics that are much harder than the extreme version so players are recommended to watch a guide beforehand so they know what exactly to expect from the fight.

The unreal trial added in the 6.2 patch is Containment Bay S1T7, originally a level 60 trial that’s unlocked through a side quest in the Warring Triad questline. Most unreal trials are released with each major patch so players can look forward to more content in the coming months. For the unreal version of Containment Bay S1T7, players need to have an item level (iLevel) of at least 560 which can be reached by wearing high-level gear that is melded with the suitable Materia for the job role.

2 Chronicles Of A New Era Side Quests

The new Chronicles Of A New Era sidequest that was released in the previous patches for the Endwalker expansion allows players to unlock and take part in the brand new normal raids called Pandæmonium.

Each expansion has Chronicles Of A New Era quests that unlock all of the previous sets of normal raids from past expansions such as Shadowbringers and Stormblood. Additionally, these side quests have some amazing storylines which are brilliant to play through if players have finished the current main story questline.

1 Hairstyles

The Island Sanctuary provides players with two brand new hairstyles once they have earned enough Seafarer Cowries, both including a ponytail. The Final Fantasy 14 developers have been working hard to get more hairstyles on the roster for the fan-favorite Vieras. The game also has a lot of current hairstyles to unlock already through the market board, special currencies, or loot drops.

Vieras haven't had as wide of a choice for hairstyles as the other characters in the game over the past few years, so those who play as Viera will be glad to know that they have a few more options as of late. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14 players were in an uproar when they found out that new hairstyles for Hrothgar's hid their ears. Luckily, the development team has now altered these hairstyles so that the ears finally show.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PC, macOS, PS4, and PS5.
