Square Enix has released a new trailer for Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age that focuses on the game's unique combat mechanics called the Gambit System.

When it originally released in 2016, Final Fantasy 12 handled combat in a way fans of the series had never seen before. The Gambit System was a combat system that allowed players to customize their party's tactics. This meant strategy played a key role when engaging tough opponents, such as designating one party member as a healer. Some lauded the efforts by Square Enix to present a fresh take on the series' battle system, but others didn't appreciate the more hands-off approach the system encouraged.

Because of this, the system was tweaked when the game received an International release in Japan. This is where the Zodiac Job System was first introduced, and it allowed players to designated classic Final Fantasy jobs to party members. This added more customization and options in combat.

In this countdown style video, the narrator begins by explaining how these changes are being carried over and improved upon further in Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. After the combat synopsis, the trailer previews some of the customization options available to party members, and then follows with by an example of what can go wrong if a character is ill-equipped for an encounter. After taking a moment to swoon over Balthier, the game's roguish sky pirate, the trailer finishes by explaining the Gambit System's historical links to the series.

As for what's new in this release, it has been confirmed that two job classes can now be assigned to the same character. This should open the doors for a variety of interesting combos, and could provide enough change to the combat system to entice even longtime veterans.

For a more cinematic experience, Square Enix released a trailer a few weeks back that highlighted the game's epic story. For those who are unaware, this particular game takes place in the same world as the Final Fantasy Tactics series of games, which adds another layer of intrigue to the game's characters and locales.

Square Enix has been on a remaster kick lately, rereleasing a lot of their classic titles in stunning HD. This has given many passionate fans hope that their favorite Square Enix games will get the remaster treatment – or perhaps even a complete remake, such as what is currently happing to the universally acclaimed Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age will release for PS4 on July 11, 2017.
