According to a reputable Final Fantasy leaker, Square Enix is preparing to release a Final Fantasy 10 remake at some point in 2026. While Square Enix has stuck to primarily remastering its popular games, it has also experimented with full-blown remakes, finding a great deal of success with Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake released to widespread critical acclaim and strong sales, so it only makes sense that Square Enix would pursue more remakes of its most popular classic games. Rumors have persisted for quite some time that Square Enix is developing a Final Fantasy 9 remake, and it seems the game franchise fans can look forward to after that is a remake of Final Fantasy 10, though it's always best to take rumors like this with a grain of salt.

According to Im A Hero Too, a Resetera user who has accurately leaked Final Fantasy news but has since deleted their account on the forum, the next Final Fantasy remake after FF9 is Final Fantasy 10. Apparently, the game will be out in time for Final Fantasy 10's next big anniversary, which would be in 2026. It's entirely unclear at this point the extent of the remake or what else it will entail. If this leak is accurate, fans likely won't get any concrete information for years.

Final Fantasy 10 was the first main series Final Fantasy game to hit PlayStation 2. It had cutting-edge graphics for the time, an engaging cast of memorable characters, and a fun battle system that both stuck with Final Fantasy's turn-based roots while employing some new ideas at the same time. It may not be as fondly remembered as Final Fantasy 7, but Final Fantasy 10 is still incredibly popular, and it would make a perfect candidate for a remake.

As far as Im A Hero Too's credibility goes, they have accurately leaked Final Fantasy news and JRPG news in general. They leaked the existence of the Persona 3 remake and its planned announcement at the Xbox Showcase on June 11, and they also leaked Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's release date delay to 2024. There's still a chance that their information is inaccurate, though, especially since this supposed Final Fantasy 10 remake is still at least three years from launch.

Three years may seem like a long time to wait, but there should be no shortage of Final Fantasy games for fans to check out in the meantime. Final Fantasy 16 releases later this month, while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch in early 2024. Rumor has it that the Final Fantasy 9 remake is coming in 2025, and chances are good that there will be even more Final Fantasy projects released in the same window.

Final Fantasy 10 is available for PS2.
