EA Sports is rolling through their catalogue of arcade-based sports titles, starting first with NBA Jam and Blitz, and are now moving on to FIFA Street, but this version is markedly different. As highlighted by a new trailer, the folks who delivered the fully featured FIFA 12 developed FIFA Street in-house. With that comes a whole new move and animation set that will make this FIFA Street standout.

Obviously, with this being a street soccer game, a significant amount of attention is placed on the ball mechanics for the game. FIFA 12 featured a drastically overhauled ball handling system, but pitch play and street play are wildly different.

In FIFA Street players will be able to control the ball in a wide variety of contextual ways by first pulling the left trigger, and then moving the left stick. Think of it like pivoting in basketball, only once the opponent has bitten, the player can advance past them.

As you’ll see in the trailer, FIFA Street‘s ball movements are much more fluid than it was in FIFA 12, but the animation and physics are spot on. For a game that only features a handful of players, and exists on fairly drab locales, the game looks just as good as its traditional soccer brethren.

The only item that isn’t stressed in the trailer is whether or not Street will feature the same collision physics that FIFA 12 did. It could definitely make for some more realistic street play, or it could create situations like this.

For those who are interested in picking upĀ FIFA Street, EA Sports has also announced a pre-order incentive that would unlock an Adidas All-Star team featuring Lionel Messi, who should be a great player to use for street ball and also happens to be the game’s cover athlete. For more details simply head on over to the game’s official site.

Are you ready to take the ball off the pitch for FIFA Street? What other key FIFA 12 features would you like to see included in this arcade style sports title?

FIFA Street releases March 13, 2012 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
