FIFA 18 is an incredibly popular game and it has millions of players all around the world. But not everyone who plays FIFA 18 is fully satisfied with the soccer sim and thousands are now staging a boycott to make their frustrations known.

"Many [FIFA 18 players] are very frustrated with the way the game has progressed over the past few months," explains a petition on Change.org. One of these problems is that FIFA 18 now feels more like FIFA 17.2 following the October patch which changed the way that goalkeeping and shooting works. The gameplay feels like it has reverted to the previous series entry and feels nothing like the FIFA 18 demo that was released in early September.

Another major issue is the FIFA 18 Weekend League which is an in-game event that is only available during the weekend. It offers great rewards but requires players to take part in 40 matches, which amounts to approximately 13 hours of playtime and some FIFA 18 fans argue that this time commitment isn't healthy. FIFA 18 also has some pretty serious technical issues that have gone unfixed, like input/button delay in the game's online modes.

The petition's creator goes on to argue that FIFA 18 creator EA makes billions of dollars from FIFA microtransactions every year, but the company seems to be unwilling to make the changes that will actually make its players happy. The petition encourages players to boycott the game and its Black Friday events in order to send a message to EA.

Many FIFA 18 players seem to agree with the petition creator's argument. As of the time of writing, 22,194 people have signed it, demanding that EA #FixFifa. 18,000 of those signatures came within 72 hours of the petition's creation. The total number of signatures is also set to grow as the petition continues to gain support on social media.

At this point, it's unclear whether EA has heard about the petition and whether it is planning to take action on the issues raised by the petition's signees. Many FIFA 18 players will be looking at the recent Star Wars Battlefront 2 microtransactions controversy as one example of when fans' voicing their frustrations successfully got EA to change its game.

More recently, it was also announced that EA racing game Need for Speed Payback would be changing its loot boxes and microtransactions in response to fan feedback. FIFA fans say that they have been loyal to the series for years and want EA to take action as quickly as possible. They have their fingers crossed that EA will make changes as fast as it did with its other recently released games.

FIFA 18 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
