The FIFA 23 World Cup update will bring new free content for players. New items will include a new and customizable FIFA World Cup tournament mode, World Cup-inspired Ultimate Team kits, new stadiums, commentary, and more.
With the World Cup set to start soon, EA Sports officially announces the transformations that FIFA 23 will undergo in celebration of the tournament. EA Sports will introduce new tournament game modes that feature all the qualified countries, customization options to include countries that didn't qualify for Qatar, and new tournament versions of Ultimate Team players. Unfortunately for Switch players, this update will not be coming to that platform.
The FIFA World Cup update will go live in FIFA 23 on November 9 and will introduce a Live Tournament mode that will allow players to play the daily matchday fixtures as quick play matches or the full World Cup Tournament either single-player, local multiplayer, or online multiplayer. FIFA players will have the option to play through the tournament with updated live results or allow them to change the course of the tournament. The World Cup update will also introduce two new Qatari stadiums to the game, Al Bayt and Lusail Stadium, that will host the World Cup Final. Multiplayer modes are cross-play compatible only within the same platform generation, so Xbox Series X and PS5.
There will be a "Your FIFA World Cup" mode that will allow the player to mix up the field and enter any 15 additional teams into the tournament. Players can either play through the whole tournament or take control of their teams at any point in the tournament. The Matchday Experience feature will see fans in their country's unique colors march to the match, and convert stadiums to give their team the feel of a home-pitch advantage. FIFA 23 teased the new matchday commentary and pre-match festivities heavily in the announcement trailer as it aims to match the pre-game atmosphere of World Cup matches.
FIFA Ultimate Team will hold a "World Cup Path to Glory" event starting November 11 that will offer limited-time opportunities at the tournament's biggest standout players with permanent boosts, iconic country kits remixed for Ultimate Team, the addition of tournament icons and legends, and a unique fan atmosphere in every nation's colors.
The world takes on a different kind of buzz whenever the FIFA World Cup tournament rolls around. EA Sports is going all out for its last tournament under FIFA licensing and is making sure it is transforming the player experience to match the hype of tournament season.
FIFA 23 is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The FIFA World Cup Update will not be on the Switch.
