FIFA 23 is bringing a lot of new features to Career Mode, from a new menu that will make it easier to navigate to a new player personality system that will allow fans to gain extra points and improve their players outside the skill tree. FIFA 23’s personalities are based on how the player acts on and off the pitch and will give gamers a boost in certain attributes to benefit their play style. This new system allows players to be more niche and focused on certain aspects of the game, whether that be as a deep-lying playmaker or a greedy striker.

Throughout the soccer world, there are many personalities that real players adopt, though FIFA 23 will feature three main personalities: Maverick, Virtuoso, and Heartbeat. Each of these personalities will impact player stats in different ways, and players will not be locked into one - rather, they will have aspects of each type of personality, with one being more dominant than the other two. While this system may not solve the problem of a player maxing out their stats in the first two seasons like with FIFA 22, it will bring a lot more depth to player development and could even be used in Manager Career Mode to have more control over the tactics of a game.

Maverick - Aggressive Scorers

Mavericks are aggressive and seek out the spotlight, chasing down goals and attempting long solo runs to break down a defense. Players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar could be categorized under this personality as well as created players who have a thirst to be the top scorer in the league. As a Maverick, players chase an expensive lifestyle off the pitch, which means that fans who want to boost the Maverick stats should focus on purchasing the more expensive and luxurious items from the new Investments and Shopping menu.

To improve Maverick stats, players will need to be a bit greedier, taking every opportunity they get to score a goal or run past a defender. This will likely be the most used personality in the game and will lead to some lethal and quick-paced strikers in Player Career Mode. Mavericks are individualistic players, only ensuring that they complete their objectives and impress the world each time they step onto the pitch, though this does mean that a bad day for them could hurt the entire team.

Virtuoso - Intelligent Playmakers

Unlike Mavericks who seek out goals, Virtuoso players will likely seek out assists or key passes that can break down a defense. They are skillful and intelligent, which makes them the perfect personality for playmakers and game changers, and will actively attempt to outwit their opponent. Players like Lionel Messi and Luka Modric are Virtuoso players with the ability to outsmart their opponents and change the course of a game in a moment.

Virtuoso players are also humbler than Mavericks, and this will be clear both on and off the pitch since they will choose to not live as lavishly as their Maverick counterparts. Rather than purchasing fast cars and big houses, they focus their finances on improving their game and meeting their athletic objectives. Virtuoso players will be the game changers and will never speak out about their quality, as they will rather let their skill and intelligence do the talking for them.

Heartbeat - The Team Player

Heartbeat players are true leaders on the pitch who will always place the team’s main objective over their own individual ones. They can lift the morale of their teammates during a game and can read their FIFA opponents' move, breaking down attacks before they even start. Players like N’Golo Kante and Jordan Henderson are the epitome of Heartbeat players, often placing the team over themselves and remaining humble and soft-spoken about their own talent.

Heartbeats will likely go on to wear the captain’s armband during games, and they will be more inclined to play out from the back. As a result, most Heartbeat players are defensive-minded, winning the ball back and then launching it forward for the Virtuoso and Maverick players to continue an attack. From defensive midfielders to center backs, these players will aim to control a game, motivate their teammates, ensure that their team wins by any means necessary, and protect the goalkeeper and defenders from incoming attacks.

Each of the three personalities in FIFA 23 will play an important role in player development and will allow fans to create the type of player they want to see on and off the pitch. With each player having a little of each personality, it will be their main personality that will dictate their actions on the pitch and how they handle criticism and praise off the pitch. With FIFA 23 set to be the final installment in the EA Sports-FIFA partnership, this feature could prove vital for future EA Sports FC games and could be one of the things that sets it apart from its competitors.

FIFA 23 is scheduled to release on September 30 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
