FIFA 23 has been a huge success since its launch in September, drawing in many new gamers to the franchise. With the Playstation and Xbox markets joining this year, coins are even harder to come by. Some players are just not worth the money. Wasting valuable coins on players like these can really hurt in Ultimate Team. With more players than ever, it is hard to know which ones to buy.

There are many reasons players are overpriced, whether it's the league they are in, the hype of a future upgrade, or the popularity of the player. Whatever the reason, these players are definitely not worth their price and should be avoided in FIFA 23. All prices below are the average current price on the Xbox/Playstation market.

7 One To Watch Darwin Nunez

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: One To Watch Darwin Nunez

Liverpool’s main summer signing Darwin Nunez has been surrounded by hype since his £85 million move from S.L. Benfica. This hype followed him into FIFA 23, and he was given a One To Watch card as a result. He hasn’t quite had the dream start he pictured after joining and was even dropped for their big match versus Manchester City.

It seems unlikely his One To Watch card is going to get any upgrades anytime soon, and so the current 74,000 coin price is far too high, especially as it is identical in stats to his gold card, which is 900 coins. So, paying 74,000 coins for a card worth 900 is hardly the best use of coins.

6 One To Watch Renato Sanches

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: One To Watch Renato Sanches

Similarly to Darwin Nunez, Renato Sanches hasn’t found life easy at Paris Saint-Germain. He has only made 7 appearances in all competitions this season, most of which have been as a substitute. He has always shown promise as a player but struggles with consistency.

Due to this sporadic form and difficulties with game time, it seems unlikely that he will get many upgrades in FIFA 23. He has always been a good player in previous FIFAs, but for 345,000 coins and no upgrades in sight, Renato is significantly overpriced. His One To Watch has the same stats as his base gold card, worth 28,000 coins. So paying an extra 317,000 coins for a future upgrade that probably won’t come isn’t the smartest move.

5 Edwin Van De Sar

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: Icon Edwin Van De Sar

Edwin Van De Sar is a legendary player with a fantastic career behind him, with more than 700 career appearances, 27 trophies, and 18 individual awards to his name. He brought success wherever we went, and his influence as a goalkeeper was second to none. Edwin Van De Sar is a true legend of the beautiful game.

However, he is the most expensive goalkeeper in the game, and not for the right reasons. He does have qualities that are important in FIFA, such as being 6 ft 6, but his stats are nothing to write home about. He has 971 total in-game stats, which is the lowest of any icon goalkeeper; even his 87-rated card has better stats. For 350,000 coins, his 89-rated card is not worth the price.

4 In-Form Mohammed Salah

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: In-Form Mohammed Salah

In-Forms are often a coin trap early on in the yearly FIFA cycle. Mohammed Salah’s first In-Form is no different. Liverpool’s star winger has been crucial to their recent success. The 30-year-old Egyptian has 242 career goals with no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Nevertheless, his 91-rated In-Form card only has 39 extra in-game stats than his base card and is 540,000 coins. Bearing in mind his base costs 195,000 coins, the extra 345,000 coins is surely not worth 39 extra stats.

3 In-Form Kevin De Bruyne

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne has been hailed as the best midfielder in the world for the past few years, and it is easy to see why. He has been the heartbeat of Manchester City’s domestic domination and is up there with the best playmakers of all time.

Despite that, much like Salah, his In-Form card is not worth the price difference. His 92-rated In-Form only provides an extra 49 in-game stats and costs 650,000 coins. Considering that it is 500,000 coins more than his 91-rated base card, the upgrade is not beneficial.

2 Rulebreakers Cristiano Ronaldo

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: Rulebreakers Cristiano Ronaldo

The Manchester United star needs no introduction; arguably the greatest player of all time with 700 club goals, the most of any player in history.

Nonetheless, his Rulebreakers card is arguably a downgrade for more than triple the price. The card does have 56 more in-game stats but has lower shooting than his base 90-rated card. His Rulebreakers card costs 1,650,000 coins, which is over1 million coins more than his base. For only 56 more stats and a drop in shooting, a million more coins is not worth it.

1 Patrick Vieira

FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: Patrick Vieira

Patrick Vieira is a legend on both the virtual and real football pitches. He is one of the best midfielders of all time and is best remembered as one of the invincibles during his incredible time at Arsenal. He has also been hailed as one of the midfielders over the past few FIFAs as well.

However, this year his 88-rated Icon card is a rip-off. It costs 1.9 million coins and only has 9 more in-game stats than his base 86-rated card, which costs 950,000 coins. That means it costs almost 100,000 coins for each stat increase. There is no doubt he is great in-game, but the difference between the cards is not worth it.

FIFA 23 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
