When NBC Sports and Jason Sudeikis created their now infamous Ted Lasso commercials back in 2013, few could have predicted just how popular the character would end up becoming. Almost a full decade later, the fictional coach now has his own Apple TV show, in which he manages the fictitious AFC Richmond, a yo-yo club looking to find stability under a new owner and coach.

Despite the huge popularity of the show, it still came as a bit of a surprise to most when EA announced that Lasso and AFC Richmond would be appearing in the latest installment of the publisher's annual football game. FIFA 23 even allows players to use Lasso as a coach in career mode, meaning that fans of the show can help take the team to Champions League glory if they so wish.

Though the Greyhounds are a Premier League side in Ted Lasso, those hoping to play as them in FIFA 23 will need to look elsewhere. AFC Richmond can be found in the Rest of World section, along with a selection of all-star teams and real-world teams whose leagues are not included in the game. This includes Wrexham AFC, the club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and the subject of another popular series, Welcome To Wrexham.

How to Play as Ted Lasso in FIFA 23's Career Mode

For those who just can't get enough of Ted Lasso, FIFA 23 allows players to take on the role of the clueless coach in the game's career mode. To do so, they'll need to start a new managerial career and then opt to play as a real manager when prompted. They'll be able to find Lasso in the Rest of World section, with AFC Richmond being his default club. If players choose to stick with the Greyhounds, they'll need to swap out one of the existing Premier League sides in order to make room for them.

AFC Richmond Ratings in FIFA 23

AFC Richmond have a four star rating in FIFA 23, which would make them one of the worst sides in the EPL had they not been placed in the Rest of World section instead. This is a little misleading, however, as their starting 11 is actually pretty strong and on par with the likes of Arsenal and West Ham. Some Ted Lasso fans may be a little disappointed with some of the individual player ratings, but anybody who watches football will know that EA has actually been incredibly generous, especially for a side that - in the show, at least - spent last season down in the Championship.
