After the success of the single player story mode of FIFA 17, known as The Journey, many fans were wondering exactly what FIFA 18 would do with the mode in its second year. Now, EA has revealed a little of what gamers can expect from the game mode in the title, thanks to a new trailer revealed at E3 2017.

Highlighted during EA’s 2017 EA Play event, this FIFA 18 trailer teased the return of original player character Alex Hunter, with a number of high profile soccer talking heads discussing the meteoric rise of the young footballer. With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Thomas Muller talking about Hunter as part of the trailer, it certainly seems as though players will not be tied to the British football leagues in this next iteration of The Journey.

However, it certainly seems as though this apparent instability about Alex Hunter’s future is not leading to positive acclaim from everyone, with fans and pundits sick of the speculation. The trailer itself ends with a look at some behind-the-scenes drama in Hunter’s life, so it certainly suggests that not all is rosy for the player, either. Those interested in seeing the full trailer can do so below.

FIFA 18‘s returning The Journey mode had already been confirmed, but EA Sports had remained coy about exactly what players could expect from the second campaign. Although this trailer does not exactly reveal much about the rest of the mode, at the very least gamers now know to brace themselves for some personal drama alongside the sport itself.

This wasn’t the only news that EA revealed during its EA Play event, either, with another trailer launching to show off some of FIFA 18‘s gameplay. With a much greater focus on atmosphere in this year’s release, it looks like soccer fans will be in for a more in-depth and hopefully realistic experience. After all, with Cristiano Ronaldo acting as a figurehead for the game this year, there will certainly be calls for some exciting football action.

That said, it’s still a long way to go to make sure that FIFA 18 meets the improvements we want from the game. A more organic and dynamic version of The Journey is high on many a player’s list, and hopefully this year’s campaign will deliver on the promise of the FIFA 2017 debut.

FIFA 18 will be released on September 29, 2017 on Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
