EA Sports has debuted the official reveal trailer for FIFA 18, confirming that Cristiano Ronaldo will be the game's featured player of the year. Ronaldo, prominent member of the Real Madrid C.F. team, is just coming off of a victory over Juventus in the Champions League final in which he scored a brace, he's the reigning Ballon d'Or holder, and he's recently won the UEFA European Championship with Portugal. That is to say, there's really no one more deserving of FIFA 18's box art.

Here's what Aaron McHardy, Senior Producer for the FIFA franchise, had to say regarding Cristiano Ronaldo being chosen for FIFA 18:

"The world’s best player has helped fuel the biggest leap forward on the pitch that we’ve ever delivered. We are extremely excited to partner with Cristiano - working with him we learned a lot about his unique play style and what makes him so special. His passion, energy and global fanbase make him the perfect ambassador for FIFA 18."

Ronaldo also provided a statement on being chosen for FIFA 18's box art, saying,"It's a great feeling and I am grateful to have been chosen." But let's be honest here, having just won the Champions League Final on this past Saturday the FIFA 18 box art is probably the last thing on his mind.

Today's announcement also included some surprising platform-related revelations. FIFA 18 is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch, but it will unfortunately not be the same version as the one coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Not only will the Switch version not be running on EA's cutting edge Frostbite engine, but also it will be lacking the game's Journey mode – nor is it supported in FIFA 18's companion app. While its been previously noted that the Switch iteration will be a "custom" version of FIFA 18, no doubt these new details will be disappointing to Nintendo fans.

Additionally, the Xbox-exclusive Legends will be abandoned in FIFA 18. Instead, the new game will feature what EA is calling Icons, which will be available on all platforms. The first Icon revealed, as part of FIFA 18's non-standard editions is Ronaldo. Not Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, AKA The Phenomenon. Future Icons are likely to be revealed in the weeks and months to come.

FIFA 18 launches September 29 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
