Without a doubt, FIFA 18 was generally considered to be a highly anticipated release for those who enjoy The Beautiful Game, and for avid gamers of sports simulation titles as well, with the latest entry in EA Sports' franchise having had quite the successful launch weekend. As it so happens, FIFA 18 managed to score a peak concurrent user base of more than 1.6 million fans playing the title during its opening weekend.

As seen in the tweet below for FIFA 18, the publisher Electronic Arts tweeted out a dynamic graphic displaying the game's cover star and the Portuguese pro, Cristiano Ronaldo, alongside the stats of 1.6 million users experiencing the title at the same time over the weekend. No doubt, the company is seeing this as a great sign for the latest sequel's popularity, as it's a solid indicator of what kind of sales numbers it will chart for its debut.

Of course, while sales numbers for the FIFA franchise are typically impressive thanks to the game's nearly universal and global appeal, concurrent player numbers are often better at portraying a more accurate picture of the player base. Following along with these metrics will allow Electronic Arts to more precisely chart how its active player base is engaging with the title, which is undoubtedly something that publishers like EA are after now more than ever.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see which goes on to become the most preferred platform for FIFA 18, especially after it was recently revealed that its Switch version in the UK made up for only 3% in sales. With this being the case, it's highly likely that the majority of FIFA 18's fans will be playing the title on the PlayStation 4 due to the Sony console's incredibly massive install base.

FIFA 18 is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
