It is without a doubt that the 2017 title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is one of the most popular Switch games that made a lot of players purchase the console in the first place. It has been months since Nintendo revealed the sequel to the game, and this radio silence has led to speculation that Nintendo will release an update in a Direct presentation.

A couple of days ago, a huge number of Nintendo fans were tricked into thinking that a Nintendo Direct is happening this February. The deception occurred when a fake Nintendo of America Twitter account posted that a Direct presentation will take place on February 12, but fans soon found out that the Twitter account is a sham, given that the username is misspelled as "Nintwndo America".

Now, while a Nintendo Direct on February 12 is definitely not true, rumors are still strong online that the company is set to hold a presentation of its upcoming games this month. One of the rumors came from industry insider Sabi, who is known for making accurate leaks in the past. Of course, fans should take this with a grain of salt given that Nintendo hasn't made an official announcement as of yet, but the leaks suggest that two Direct presentations are on the way soon.

The first alleged Nintendo Direct will take place on February 20, and will mostly revolve around the upcoming game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The other presentation will reportedly follow shortly after and will talk about upcoming Switch releases in general. Now, it is still unclear which specific games the second Direct presentation for the month will talk about, but there is reason to believe that it may be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

Apart from the reveal trailer and a handful of concept art revealed at E3 2019, there is still not much we know about the upcoming sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. However, rumors that continue to revolve around the game strongly suggests that an update on Breath of the Wild 2 is bound to happen soon. In a leak that was recently deleted, a post claimed that the upcoming sequel will be called The Legend of Zelda: Bond of the Triforce and a reveal trailer will release "relatively soon".

Now, if a Nintendo Direct presentation is bound to happen this February, and assuming this rumor is true, it will be the perfect venue for Nintendo to reveal the name change and latest trailer. The sequel will reportedly introduce the ability to switch between Link and Zelda in dungeons, with the latter having the ability to "harness the power of nature" by controlling the weather.

A Breath of the Wild 2 Update is Long Overdue

Ever since the official announcement of Breath of the Wild 2 at E3 2019, which was eight months ago, Nintendo remained tight-lipped about the on-going development of the sequel. Given the long wait since the initial announcement, an update about the game's progress is long overdue, and Nintendo is probably just holding off a discussion about Breath of the Wild 2 to put the focus on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is scheduled to launch this March.

Having said this, earlier rumors claiming that two Nintendo Direct presentations are happening this month makes more sense, given that the company would want one focused on Animal Crossing, and another for upcoming games, which includes Breath of the Wild 2. Moreover, given the massive hype that was created after the announcement of the sequel, Nintendo would probably want to keep the excitement going with an in-depth look at the upcoming game.

Of course, while it would be awesome to get new information about Breath of the Wild 2, the sequel appearing on a Nintendo Direct this month may very well be wishful thinking, especially since the presentation itself is still unconfirmed. Although it's been months since Nintendo talked about the game, it is apparent that it is still in its early stages of development, which is why it is a long shot, but not impossible, for Nintendo to reveal on what else to expect in Breath of the Wild 2 soon.

But not all hope is lost for fans eagerly anticipating to hear an update about the upcoming game, given that a release date is still unknown. It is possible that if Nintendo isn't ready to reveal in-depth information about Breath of the Wild 2, then the company will probably make up for it by at least revealing a release window, which will definitely satisfy the thirst of Zelda fans. Luckily for fans, there are only a few days left before the rumored Nintendo Direct will take place, which will settle once and for all whether Nintendo will release an update on Breath of the Wild 2.

A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in development.
