Crazy slow motion violence? Check. Psychotic girl with face partially obscured by hair? Check. Supernatural possession of enemies? Well that’s new.

Yes it’s that time again folks, time for F.E.A.R. 3. For those of you who've finished the second F.E.A.R., you've most likely been counting the days until Monolith announced a third. Although for those of you that felt, like I did, that F.E.A.R. “jumped the shark” you are in luck! Original developer Day 1 Studios has returned to take the franchise back to its roots.

Released today is a new trailer showcasing the tension that exists between Alma’s two children, the Point Man and Paxton Fettel. Without further ado, I give you the trailer:

Pretty freaky huh? F.E.A.R. 3 sees the two brothers teaming up to take on the futuristic soldiers of the F.E.A.R. universe while their mother is in her ninth month of pregnancy. Each character, Point Man and Fettel, will feature a different play style. Point Man plays exactly as he did in the first game complete with time manipulation while Fettel takes on a more ethereal form with the ability to inhabit the body of any enemy.

Unfortunately, those who were hoping to play through the single player as only Fettel will be unable to do so. Yes, if you start a co-op game you and your partner will have your pick of the two brothers, but those of you without a partner in crime will be forced to play as the Point Man working along with a computer-controlled Fettel. The door is still open to go back on this development decision but at this time Day 1 believes Point Man's perspective provides the best experience for F.E.A.R. 3.

F.E.A.R. has always been a series that wants to throw as much bizarre scenes at you as possible. The original was an interesting take on the horror genre and had me warily approaching every corner. The second took a lot of the horror elements out of the series and focused more on the action one might expect from any current FPS. With Day 1 back at the helm, the hope is a return to form for the F.E.A.R. franchise. Based on all that we have seen with F.E.A.R. 3 that is looking to be the case.

What do you think of this trailer, Ranters? Are you ready to break out your spare pants and return to the F.E.A.R. universe?

F.E.A.R. 3 is set for an October 20th release day on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC (pushed back to June 21, 2011).
