Actor Paul Walker, best known for playing Brian O'Connor in the Fast and Furious franchise, will have his name posthumously added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame along with several other big-name actors.
Walker rose to fame playing police officer turned street racer Brian O'Connor in the Fast and Furious movies alongside franchise stars Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez. Walker was tragically killed in a car accident in 2013, which occurred separately from but while he was still involved in the production of the seventh Fast and Furious movie.
The selection was confirmed by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce on Friday. Along with Walker, the late singer Jenni Rivera will also receive a star. Walker's star will be affixed in 2023, along with his Fast and Furious co-star Christopher ‘Ludacris’ Bridges and actors Uma Thurman, Bill Pullman, Vince Vaughn, John Waters, Jon Favreau, Mindy Kaling, Martin Lawrence, Ralph Macchio, Garrett Morris, and Ellen Pompeo. "The Selection Panel, made up of fellow Walk of Famers, hand-picks a group of honorees each year that represent various genres of the entertainment world,” said Chairwoman and Walk of Fame star recipient, Ellen K. “The panel thoughtfully selected these talented individuals, and we can’t wait to celebrate them as they become part of Hollywood’s history with the unveiling of their star on the world’s most famous walkway!”
Actress Jordana Brewster, who played Walker's on-screen wife in the Fast and Furious franchise, celebrated the Walk of Fame announcement by posting several photos of the late actor on Instagram. “You are going to get your star. Shining on forever. Hollywood walk of fame class of 2023," wrote Brewster in the caption. The post itself received heartwarming comments from Walker's daughter, Meadow Walker Thornton-Allan, and Diesel himself.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a historic landmark and popular tourist attraction in Hollywood, California that consists of more than 2,700 brass stars with the names of various figures in the entertainment industry. It includes a mix of actors, directors, producers, musicians, theatrical and musical groups, fictional characters, and more. Each year an average of 200 nominations are submitted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame selection committee.
Anyone can submit a nomination, as long as the nominee or their management has approved. Nominees must have a minimum of five years' experience in the category for which they are nominated. Approximately 20 to 24 celebrities are selected by the committee at an annual meeting in June, and at least one posthumous award is given out each year.
