Experiences range from general adventures to fun mini-games, but one genre that has had quite the run on the system is shooters. A game that stood out among this collection of games is Farpoint by Impulse Gear.

The space adventure was a first-person shooter that took advantage of the PSVR Aim Controller, which made the PlayStation Move look like a gun. The game had both a single-player campaign as well as an online co-op mode that allowed anyone with the headset to play the game with each other. Set in various landmarks throughout the world, players can take place in three different match types: Team Takedown, Power Slam, and Endzone. Players can choose between four different mech classes and 24 different rigs, each of which provides the player with a unique experience.

The PlayStation 4 had plenty of solid exclusives that saw the start of a few new Sony franchises. One of these titles is Until Dawn, a horror game that had players going through a story where decisions matter and greatly affected the story ahead.

The game had a virtual reality spin-off called Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, a rail shooter taking place in a scary amusement park. Players can experience seven different coasters that they can ride while shooting down many different enemies. Players will start with a handgun but can expand to using other weapons.

7 Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner

Thrashing through enemies can be a lot of fun. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is a solid game for doing just that. Originally released in 2003, the game was re-released in 2018 and made compatible with the PlayStation 4's VR headset.

Taking place two years after the events of the first game, The 2nd Runner focuses on Dingo Egret as he is forced to take on BAHRAM, a military organization that he used to be a part of. The player shoots from a third-person angle, and in VR mode looks like they are sitting inside of a ship controlling Dingo.

6 Iron Man VR

2020 was a solid year for virtual reality games. PlayStation 4 had its fair share of exclusive titles, with Iron Man VR being among their more notable titles. Players are placed inside the suit of Iron Man as they go through linear levels from a first-person perspective.

The game focuses on aerial combat where players will need to learn how to use the tools provided to them in the armor to fight back. The game allows players to explore rather than go through levels in a rail shooter-like fashion.

5 Superhot VR

When it comes to unique shooters of recent years, Superhot stands out as it takes the usual shooting experience and makes it so the world stays frozen as long as the player doesn't move. This tactical shooting experience was then made into a virtual reality game that expands the unique gameplay of the original hit.

The virtual reality version adds new levels that expand how the player can move, including moving their body, head, and hands. Players in real life will have to remain still and move only when they want in order to get through these levels.

4 Arizona Sunshine

Despite some controversy over hardware exclusivity upon launch, Arizona Sunshine is an underrated first-person shooter that has gotten some love from reviewers. The zombie survival game takes place in an Arizona river valley where a player must kill waves of zombies throughout the game as they try to survive.

The game uses motion controls for using the firearms, with the player being able to hold a gun in each hand. The goal of the game is to also explore and find tools that are needed to progress.

3 Doom VFR

When it comes to classic shooters, there is nothing more classic than Doom. Because of how beloved the series is, it was only a matter of time before Bethesda created a virtual reality experience based in the Doom universe.

In Doom VFR, the player is a cybernetic survivor who must fight off a demon invasion taking place inside the UAC facility on Mars. Players will get to immerse themselves as they take on waves of enemies as they explore the Doom world from a new lens.

2 Firewall: Zero Hour

Shooters on their own can be fun, but shooters with other players enhance the experience. Firewall: Zero Hour is one of the most innovative virtual reality games out there as there are both online and offline components to it.

There are two modes: Contracts and Training. Training can be done in offline mode and it allows players to experience the main elements of the game against AI opponents. With Contracts, players are put into two teams of four where an attacking team must fulfill a checklist of goals while the defending team looks to stop them.

For those seeking the feeling of being part of a cinematic thriller, Blood & Truth is the game to try. The game's story revolves around Ryan Marks, a former soldier who is looking to protect and save his family from a London crime boss named Tony Sharp.

Blood & Truth features both action and stealth gameplay. A first-person shooter, players are able to pick guns up that are on the ground and start shooting at enemies. A big part of the game is navigation, especially in stealth levels, so players will need to be able to move from one place to another and interact with objects.
