In Far Cry New Dawn, the apocalypse wasn't enough to stop Hope County from regrowing - though it took several years for nuclear winter to give way to a colorful new beginning. In the game, players will take refuge at a base with the hopeful name of Prosperity, and it'll be filled with equally-hopeful inhabitants. Like its predecessor, Far Cry New Dawn won't make players go through the game alone: Prosperity is home to a healthy selection of guns for hire, which is Ubisoft lingo for AI companions with special abilities.

Earlier this month, Game Rant had a chance to take a look at two of these characters.

Veterans of Far Cry 5 will likely remember Nick Rye and his wife, Kim. After all, it's hard to forget two characters when you help deliver their baby. 17 in-game years later, this baby has grown up into one of Far Cry New Dawn's guns for hire. Her name is Carmina, and this post-apocalyptic world is the only one she's ever known. Unlike her parents, who often-times feel negative about the state of the world, Carmina is an optimist. This personality clash will lead to some narrative friction throughout Far Cry New Dawn, but Carmina will always be game to cover the player's back regardless of her familial affairs.

The second gun for hire is Nana. She's a more oddball character and, as the name implies, has put on quite a few years in her time. As a former extreme tourism guide, she knows the woods of Hope County like the back of her hand. Nana is still as sharp as ever, which is pretty befitting considering she's a sharpshooter.

As one expedition demonstration revealed, she has a special long-ranged silent kill ability that will be crucial for stealth attacks. The affable granny has designated herself as everyone's Nana, though this role takes many forms: she'll be nurturing one moment, but then giving someone a slap upside their head the next. She's far beyond the age of caring what others think of her, so gamers should expect some witty banter to be on the menu whenever Nana tags along.

There are several more guns for hire characters that Ubisoft wasn't ready to reveal. While he wasn't explicitly detailed, Ubisoft was able to confirm that Hurk - now a quintessential property in each Far Cry title - will once again make a return to the franchise. There will also be at least two fangs for hire, with Timber being the title's new canine companion. There's also a fat wild boar named Horatio, and he's been called both cute and disgusting by various Ubisoft developers. Much like Cheeseburger the diabetic bear, he brings chaos wherever he goes. He'll be battering a car and destroying 5 guys at once in one moment, and enjoying a nice pat from the player the next.

Ubisoft is still keeping most of the characters in Far Cry New Dawn under wraps, but Carmina and Nana offer an early glimpse at what the residents of Prosperity have to offer. The Far Cry series has always been home to many colorful characters, and it looks like the equally-colorful world of Far Cry New Dawn will be no exception.

Far Cry New Dawn will release on February 15, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
