With Far Cry New Dawn, developer Ubisoft has brought some RPG elements to its open-world shooter and in the process created a new gameplay loop. Upgrading facilities in the Prosperity camp is a key part of that experience in Far Cry New Dawn because it gives players access to new abilities and makes them stronger, but doing so requires Ethanol.

Where to Find Ethanol

Every outpost in Far Cry New Dawn rewards Ethanol upon completion, so discovering all of them as early as possible will give players a leg up. Luckily, when players complete an outpost they will typically learn the location of another.

Each outpost has three tiers of difficulty (levels 1-3), but they all start at a base level that rewards 100 Ethanol. If players complete the outpost without triggering alarms (+50 Ethanol) or if they are undetected (+100 Ethanol), they will earn additional Ethanol.

Then, once an outpost is complete, the player can choose to scavenge the outpost for additional Ethanol at a rate of 50 for level 2 and then 100 for level 3. Once scavenged, the outpost is reclaimed by the Highwaymen and outfitted with rank 2 enemies. More importantly, the outpost will then offer Ethanol for completing it, and the bonuses once again apply.

Use Nana for Easy Ethanol Farm

With that in mind, players can amass a lot of Ethanol quickly if they liberate as many outposts as possible in Far Cry New Dawn. They can also get a little bonus Ethanol for completing each one undetected, which is surprisingly easy.

To accomplish this, we recommend recruiting Gun for Hire Nana from the open world as early as possible. Because Nana is a stealth sniper, players can sit back and let her take out every enemy in an outpost without ever alerting the guards to their presence. It doesn’t matter if Nana is spotted or if she misses, as long as the player is never seen by an enemy they will get the ‘Undetected’ bonus.

Taking things one step further, if players want to upgrade their Guns for Hire to rank 2 or 3, they can use Nana to clear out a scavenged Outpost for even more Ethanol. It’s not the most exciting gameplay loop but for those who want Ethanol quickly, it’s the most surefire way.

The best way we found to use Nana was to unlock the binoculars from Far Cry New Dawn’s perk list. Then, head to any outpost and find a position that is far back enough that the enemies can’t see you, but you can see them. Then tag each enemy one by one and let Nana take them out. If done correctly, the outpost should be liberated and you should get the Undetected bonus for more Ethanol.

What Does Ethanol Do

Ethanol is a key resource in Far Cry New Dawn, allowing the player to upgrade the various facilities in Prosperity and obtain upgrades in the process. By upgrading Expeditions, for example, the player can unlock the ability to fast travel to outposts at level 1 or any discovered location at level 2. Each facility has three levels of unlocks and while some might not be as important, there are a few that players should focus on as early as possible.

The weapon stash is an important facility because higher rank weapons do more damage to enemies. On top of that, as players progress through Far Cry New Dawn’s story they will encounter enemies with higher ranks, which will require these weapons.

We also recommend upgrading the Training Camp because of the Ethanol farming method outlining above. Getting Nana to a high rank will ensure she clears out every outpost efficiently.

No doubt players will get plenty of Ethanol through normal progression in Far Cry New Dawn but getting access to a large supply early can give them an advantage. It not only makes traversal easier but there are more fun weapons to play around with early on.

Far Cry New Dawn is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
