Far Cry 6 is the first main entry in the series since 2018. Far Cry 5 did get DLC and expansions after that, but this sequel feels different. It finds players on the fictional island of Yara. A charismatic dictator, Anton Castillo, has the country ruthlessly under his thumb.

While trying to escape to America one right, the hero, Dani Rojas, loses all of their friends in the process. Their boat is sunk and Dani wakes up on a smaller island with no idea what to do next. Much of the game will feel familiar to fans of this popular Ubisoft series. There are still some new elements and things players should be aware of before beginning another long adventure into the series with Far Cry 6.

Updated on December 17th, 2021 by Hodey Johns: Getting a bad start in Far Cry 6 is worse than it can be in many other games. There are many traps, like exploring areas that are too difficult or investing rare resources into a gun or Supremo that will end up getting discarded. These kinds of mistakes will be felt throughout the entire playthrough. Therefore, the more advice gamers have about starting out, the better. With this in mind,t his list has had three new entries added that should make the entire ride of Far Cry 6, from beginning to end, as smooth as butter.

10 Participate In Special Operations

The best weapons in the game are all "overclocked." But players can go through every single mission and side quest in the game and never come across an overclocked weapon. That's because these special weapons are reserved for special players.

Some of them involve spending real money, but the better way to go about it is to earn Moneda really quickly by visiting Lola in any of the camps and completing her special operations. After only a few, players will have enough to afford the best gear the game has to offer. Check back weekly, it rotates!

9 Have A Means Of Dealing With Vehicles

The vehicles are the big, bad units of Far Cry 6. While players are given a veritable buffet of ways to kill foot soldiers, vehicles are a different story. Some have glass or exteriors that are completely impenetrable by even the best-modded gun.

When it comes to tanks, planes, and helicopters, grab one of the fantastic Supremos like the Volta that emits an EMP wave and neutralizes all vehicles in the area, allowing Dani to hijack one. There are also some top-notch Resolver weapons that can zap a vehicle as well.

8 Take Out Anti-Aircraft Cannons

Flying is, without question, the best way to get from place to place in the game. But the developers were all too aware that players would try to get around the easy way so they set up lots of Anti-Aircraft Cannons that smoke anything out of the sky.

When getting into range, quickly land the flying transportation device that Dani is in. Then destroy the Anti-Aircraft Cannon with any explosive device available. After that, get back to the vehicle and keep flying. This might be annoying at first, but after they're all taken out, moving around the map gets so much faster.

7 Tweak These Settings

There are a couple of handy adjustments players should make before starting Far Cry 6. In the accessibility menu, there are options to highlight enemies and to also choose what color they show up as. This is true for items as well. Choose a color that pops out prominently in the jungle such as pink.

It’s also good to know that there are two difficulties. The easier one, Story, actually does make the game accessible to the casual crowd thanks to a tougher resistance to bullets. This is truer than any other release in the series.

6 Get Off That First Island ASAP

At first, seems like the first island of Isla Santuario is big. It pales in comparison to the main island of Yara which is divided up into bigger regions.

There are some side missions and secret weapons players could take the time to unlock on Isla Santuario, but it is still recommended to get off as soon as possible. The main island is where the game feels like it truly begins so stick with the story.

5 Choose Horses Over Cars

There is no option to drive a car in a third-person viewpoint right now which makes controlling them difficult. Thankfully the islands are filled with horses and they’re just as fast as cars but more maneuverable.

They have the extra benefit of getting through spiked blockades at checkpoint crossings and it is easier to shoot at enemies while on horseback. Horses can die easier on the negative side of things but horses are still the most recommended travel option.

4 Stop At Stealth With Observations

The stealth mechanics in this game are not that good. Chances are enemies will spot no matter how sneaky players are. Silent weapons like bows do help along with suppressing bigger guns like sniper rifles. Going into a fort with as much firepower as possible is still the best way to go. Players should first observe a compound from a distance and then draw a few out.

Once a good group has gathered, blast them with a bomb or something then parachute into the compound and go to town. Also, make sure to find secure locations to lead enemies into narrow corridors that are easily defensible. Distance, speed, and firepower trumps all stealth options in Far Cry 6. Playing the game in co-op also helps take down bases faster as does using all of the animal companions.

3 Get A Bow ASAP

The bow is the best weapon in the game for taking down enemies silently and from a distance. This isn’t the recommended play method as it was just mentioned, but it can help in a pinch. The bow should be acquired as soon as possible for another reason though: hunting.

The bow doesn’t damage animal hides as easily as bullets. Getting hides is one of the quickest ways to accumulate money in Far Cry 6 via trading posts. So once a bow becomes available in the shops, get it.

2 Enter Bases From Water

Parachuting in Far Cry 6

It can be fun to enter forts from the front or from above via the parachute but sometimes there is a way to be sneaky. One of the first big forts in the game is on Isla Santuario and players can enter it via the water.

Water entries are not typically guarded well. This makes it easy to silently take out enemies and surprise attack the base from within. Again, stealth isn’t always the best option to use in the game but it shouldn’t be discounted either. Knowing every option available is half the battle. It’s a shame animal companions like Guapo the crocodile can’t be used more stealthily.

1 Don’t Go Overboard On Mods

Firing the Supremo in Far Cry 6

There are a lot of guns in the game and players can easily go from one piece of gear to the next in a manner of minutes. That’s why modding via the workbench is not recommended right away. Most guns are powerful enough on their own and don’t really need tweaking right away.

Modding should be avoided because one of the key components, gin powder, is very rare. Save up that material for mid-game, or end-game content. Players probably don’t want to get stuck with a weak gun early on in Far Cry 6 just because they invested a lot of mods into it.

Far Cry 6 was released on October 7, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
