The release of Far Cry 6 is finally just around the corner, following an eight month delay that saw it pushed back from its original February 18 release date. The game is now set to release on October 7, and fans are eager to get their hands on the first mainline entry in the Far Cry franchise since 2018. Far Cry 6 takes place on the fictional island of Yara in the Caribbean and will be the most expansive Far Cry map to date. The game’s primary antagonist, Anton Castillo, has also proven exciting to fans as they are eager to learn more about the character. Giancarlo Esposito portrays Anton in Far Cry 6, and the villain could be yet another classic for the franchise.

A recent overview trailer for Far Cry 6 has given fans a boost just prior to its launch, by highlighting some of the content fans can expect going forward. The trailer shows off all of Far Cry 6's planned post-launch content, including some interesting features. However, what may have stood out to fans of Stranger Things is the crossover between Stranger Things and Far Cry planned to be released as a free DLC. From what was shown in the trailer, it seems as though Far Cry 6 is looking to capture the essence of what has made Stranger Things so successful, as players will be tasked with braving the unknown.

What is Far Cry 6's Stranger Things Crossover?

Despite not even being out yet, Far Cry 6 has already received a post-launch overview trailer detailing what Ubisoft is planning to add to the game following its launch. This trailer highlighted a number of interesting modes Far Cry 6 is set to receive, and has fans looking beyond the release of Far Cry 6 next month. One of the more interesting reveals in this trailer was a crossover with the Netflix show Stranger Things, which sees the realm of The Upside Down feature in Far Cry 6. The title of the Stranger Things and Far Cry 6 crossover will be The Vanishing, which alludes to the DLC's main conflict.

There was only a brief snippet included in the post-launch overview trailer, which saw Far Cry 6's Juan Cortez giving the bulk of the information on the DLC. This section of the trailer features the Stranger Things theme, combined with Juan Cortez saying that “Nothing scares Juan Cortez, but that thing...”. This is followed by a slow pan up revealing a version of Yara that appears to be in The Upside Down, with its trademark overgrown roots and red storm clouds.

Little else is known, but Juan Cortez alludes to the fact that Far Cry 6's lovable dog, Chorizo, has gone missing in The Upside Down. It seems that this will be the main story of the DLC, with the objective to venture into the unknown in search of Chorizo, while potentially dealing with the dreaded Demogorgon.

Far Cry 6's Mission DLC

Far Cry 6's Stranger Things crossover is just one of three missions that will be made available post-launch. The first will see Far Cry 6's Dani Rojas team up with Danny Trejo in "Danny & Dani Vs. Everybody." This looks set to be an action-packed mission in which Dani “helps Trejo feed his tasty Trejos Tacos to the good citizens across Yara.” The trailer makes it clear that it will be paying homage to Robert Rodriguez's Machete franchise. As is the case with the Far Cry 6 x Stranger Things crossover, details are fairly scarce on Danny & Dani Vs. Everybody, but it seems as though it will be an exciting crossover.

In between the Danny Trejo and the Stranger Things crossovers is a great one for fans of 80s action heroes. Far Cry 6's post-launch content will see Rambo come to the game, or at least a very dedicated Rambo fan. Unlike Black Ops Cold War’s Rambo crossover, which saw Sylvester Stallone feature as a playable character in the game, Far Cry 6 has taken a different approach. Far Cry 6 will not feature the actual Rambo; instead, Dani will team up with a “Rambo superfan” to take down the Yaran military.

While the superfan may not actually be Rambo, they have certainly dressed the part, with Rambo’s trademark headband, over-the-shoulder bullet belt, and all. The trailer didn’t feature any gameplay of this mission but from the looks of it, it will contain just as much over the top action as the 80s action movie inspirations.

The previous three missions will be added to Far Cry 6 for free post-launch, but for players willing to spend a little bit extra on the season pass, there’s even more content in store. Far Cry 6's post-launch overview trailer also gave fans a good look at the Far Cry villains-focused season pass content, also set to be released post-launch.

The Far Cry 6 Become the Villain DLC was announced earlier this year, but the recent trailer gave fans a pretty extensive look at what they can expect as well as a good bit of gameplay from the paid DLC. As well as the villains DLC, fans will receive fan-favorite Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon by subscribing to the season pass. All in all, it seems that the season pass for Far Cry 6 is going to bring back a lot of memories and familiar faces for long-time fans of the series.

Far Cry 6's Villains DLC features three of the best Far Cry villains in Vaas, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed, who will lead the narrative of the DLC as playable characters. From the looks of it, players will be sent on a trip down memory lane. According to Ubisoft, the villains DLC will include roguelike mechanics, and each episode will be playable in co-op with a friend. Players will gather resources, kill enemies, and purchase new gear, but players should be careful as their death can see them lose their progress in a similar way to Deathloop.

Far Cry 6 releases October 7, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Luna, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
