Ubisoft is one of the most well-known developers/publishers in the modern gaming industry. Creator of fan-favorite franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and Far Cry. Despite the publisher's continued push to pump out as many games as possible, fans are always eager to see what the giant plans on doing next.

There's a whole host of speculation and theories about the Ubisoft Foward event, which is scheduled to go live during E3 2021. It's most likely that the publisher has quite a lot to show, but it seems that Far Cry 6 might be the event's crown jewel.

Far Cry 6's History

Far Cry 6 was revealed during last July's Ubisoft Foward event. Reveal might be a strong word here since Far Cry 6 already leaked ahead of the conference in true Ubisoft fashion. Despite the relatively short teaser, Far Cry 6 turned out to be the highlight of the conference for many fans, despite showing detailed gameplay for titles such as Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and a then-newly announced Hyper Scape.

This isn't anything unusual, as Far Cry is probably the studio's dearest darling short of Assassin's Creed. Far Cry 6 was originally scheduled to launch in February of this year but had to be delayed due to problems stemming from COVID-19's impact on development. This clearly shows that Ubisoft wants Far Cry 6 done right, which shows a reinvigorated interest by Ubisoft to ensure its games hit a certain level of quality.

While Ubisoft's E3 2021 lineup isn't confirmed, it seems that games such as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Rainbow Six: Parasite, and Riders Republic might be the likeliest contenders. Of course, Ubisoft's annualized franchises such as the likes of Just Dance will most likely grace the stage as well. While many fans are waiting out on big-name releases such as Skull and Bones and Beyond Good and Evil 2 to be in the lineup, reports of extended development and an elongated period of silence on Ubisoft's part seem to suggest otherwise.

In addition to this, Assassin's Creed would most likely be absent from the event as rumors indicate the next game to come out in 2022. This leaves Ubisoft with Far Cry 6 as the only heavy-hitter, and with a speculated release window of this year, there's little doubt that the game would be the giant's big E3 play. With a reveal trailer already done and dusted, a gameplay reveal and a new release date would probably be the focal point of Far Cry 6's showings this E3.

Again, this is by no means definitive. Ubisoft games have a complex development structure, with multiple studios working on a single title at a time. The pandemic's effect on such games can't be understated, and there's some chance that the game might be absent from this year's E3, a speculation which is bolstered by Far Cry 6's game design director's comments regarding the game. Hopefully, fans of this long-running franchise get to learn more about this highly-anticipated entry in the series.

Far Cry 6 is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
