Far Cry 6, the latest entry in the long-running open world FPS franchise from Ubisoft, was originally supposed to launch earlier this year. Unfortunately for fans, Ubisoft delayed Far Cry 6's release date to an undetermined point later in the year. Now Far Cry 6 fans can safely mark their calendars, as Ubisoft has revealed the highly-anticipated game's release date alongside some of the gameplay features that fans can look forward to come launch.

As confirmed by Ubisoft, the Far Cry 6 release date is October 7, 2021, where it will launch simultaneously across PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Ubisoft confirmed the Far Cry 6 release date at the end of an action-packed trailer that showed off some gameplay features, as explained by the character Juan Cortez. Cortez will serve a mentor role for Far Cry 6 protagonist Dani Rojas, teaching them what they need to know about guerrilla warfare.

The Far Cry 6 gameplay trailer explained how Rojas will have access to hideouts across the game's open world of Yara. These hideouts will have various guerrilla members for Rojas to interact with, with players able to play mini-games, test out their weapons, and much more. These are essentially hub areas for players to prep before they head off to complete Far Cry 6's various missions and other activities.

After explaining the safe havens players will be able to use, the trailer then dived more into the different locales of Yara. As is typical of Far Cry games, Yara has varied environments for players to explore, including jungles, hilly areas, cities, and more. Far Cry 6 vehicles will help Rojas get around the game world, with players having access to a wide variety of weapons and other tools to help them deal with dangers like the local wildlife and armed combatants.

Based on the Far Cry 6 gameplay trailer, it seems as though Rojas will have plenty of unique weapons at their disposal to help them kill "El Presidente" Anton Castillo's forces. Castillo, played by Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito, wasn't really featured much in the gameplay trailer. However, he was the focus of the Far Cry 6 story trailer that Ubisoft showed off prior to the gameplay reveal, so fans can expect his presence to be felt throughout the entire game.

Now that Far Cry 6 has a solid release date, fans of the franchise can finally look forward to taking on Castillo's forces for themselves. Here's hoping the game lives up to the hype and the high bar set by its predecessors.

Far Cry 6 launches October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
