“You were never my light, Citra. You were my darkness,” utters Vaas, escaping his mind for the umpteenth time on the hardest difficulty. This, in turn, unlocks Vaas’ secret ending in Far Cry 6, answering fan questions that have lingered for years. More importantly, however, it proves that Vaas beat Jason Brody.

Far Cry 3 is a classic, often hailed as one of the best in the franchise. Players take on the role of Jason Brody who is attempting to save his friends with the aid of the Rakyat. Slowly but surely, he is swayed by Citra and joins the Rakyat as her warrior. It becomes less about his friends and more about his strength, chasing down antagonist Vaas in vengeance and killing Hoyt to preserve the Rook Islands’ future (or, well, to make it his island). MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR FAR CRY 6: VAAS INSANITY AHEAD.

Far Cry 3 Endings – What Happens to Jason Brody?

jason brody far cry 6

There are two endings to Far Cry 3. The first, in an abrupt almost character-breaking turn of face, Jason sides with his friend, leaving the Rook Islands behind. Citra tries to prevent him from going back, claiming that he is the perfect warrior, and she dies in the process when one of the others who love her try to stab Jason. His ending epilogue here, that he has killed so many, that he is a monster, and that he can’t come back is noteworthy—Jason’s self-image is gone; Citra is dead.

If Jason joins Citra, killing his friends and past in the process, she will finally “give” herself to him. This, she claims, results in her pregnancy and that their child will lead the Rakyat, not Jason as she kills him at the end of this encounter. In this ending, Citra has won all of her manipulations with Jason, and he is dead.

Far Cry 6 Vaas Secret Ending, Beating Jason Brody and Citra

Throughout the Insanity DLC, Vaas will face the demons of his own mind in the form of Citra and Jason. He will fight them and kill them again and again, befitting the true definition of insanity. But, escaping on Mind Level 5 in Far Cry 6 results in a special cutscene, where Vaas is sitting on a beach having survived his real-world encounter with Jason Brody. Vaas is alive.

If anything, the Insanity DLC makes it clear how deep Citra’s manipulations of her brother went. There are sweet moments seen of their childhood, but everything she puts him through becomes more clear and clear. Citra clearly manipulated everyone, but her physical and emotional manipulation may have been even worse with Vaas.

Thus, this DLC shows how Vaas—in the time following Far Cry 3—comes to terms with his past abuse at the hands of his sister and his growth in character. He’s still a criminally insane psychopath, protecting his particular charm with Michael Mando bringing him to life once more, but Jason Brody either loses himself when leaves with his friends or ultimately dies at the hands of Citra’s manipulation. Vaas got out early, yet she still haunted him.

But he manages to do what Jason could not: he breaks free from the manipulation, his past, and instead of losing everything about himself or his life, well, he earns a tennis ball friend on a beach. He got out alive and true to self, something Citra worked really hard to break in every man who loved her.

Far Cry 6’s Vaas: Insanity DLC is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
